      1. There used to be a gritty industrial town here in Ontario named Gault whose economic prospects were dim. Municipal leaders decided the problem was the name, as both its sound and its meaning were unappealing. So now we have a gritty industrial town named Cambridge whose economic prospects are dim.

    1. Congrats on pairing THROWBACK! I found Throwback early but didn’t have the tenacity to get GAULT.

Had to slug it out with BACKROW WALKTHROUGH instead…

    2. Same here. Got THROWBACK almost immediately, and saw that GLUT couldn’t work, so, without GU(i)LT, I took a stab at GAULT. A new word for me!

      1. Willie GAULT from the 1980’s Bears. Definitely a THROWBACK! Happy to be done very quickly after the fruitless search yesterday for a solution. Still muttering to myself about Plinth.

    3. Out of desperation I tried GAULT, never having heard of the word. LB accepted it so

      GAULT THROWBACK

breaks my cockamamie five day losing streak!

      1. Ditto. Solved in a minute after seeing that CLAWBACK left an awkward transition. Changed it to TALKBACK and it was game over. After the past 3 days, I was beginning to think that I had lost my touch.

    1. Same…
      [ Wrought – Talkback ]

      Found these first…
Cougar, Throwback, Thought, Caught, Blowback, Laugh, Backtrack

There has to be a connection with Throwback?

      1. Did BLACKWORT-THROUGH. Decided not to think hard about whether there was a more efficient solution for the second word, but see you found it.

    1. Same! Found OA thinking surely way too many reuse of letters to be OA….played with compound words using TALK (BACKTALK), WALK (WALKTHROUGH), WART (WARTHOG), WORK (WORKTHROUGH) , WORT (didn’t come up with anything), WATCH and got very hung up on WALKTHROUGH to finally get to HATCHBACK. Really wanted ALTHOUGH, BROUGHT, or KOWTOW to work!

  1. BACKROW WALKTHROUGH.

Walkthrough was a breakthrough, or so I thought. took a while to find BACKROW, just to knock out B and C. ALIOW and probably no less efficient than OA.

      1. Indeed. Found Wrought Talkback (when they invented the Chatbot). A model of efficiency compared with the prolix OA.

  2. I really wanted to use WARTHOG or BACKLOT or BACKLOG or LAWCOURT (all unique letters). Found WALKTHROUGH as well, but ended like many others with WROUGHT-TALKBACK (15/2)

    1. Same here.
I gave it a stab in an almost exhausted state from all the reworkings, and it popped! 🥳 There were so many great words without connectors until I “concocted” gault.

  3. Here is the full list including Scrabble words:
