Sides of this Letter Box are:
ETKBRLANOWID
The answers are:
WRINKLEDDEADBOLT
DOWNBEAT TAKIER
TALKIER – RAINBOWED.
Same here – I found both words fairly unsatisfying 😕
It took a while but I got half the OA with
WRINKLED DELIBERATOR
An aged emcee.
Ditto
Same here and completely agree. Did get KNITWEAR but failed to see REBOILED before moving on. Tried to pair BOBTAILED and BARDOLATOR with something but then saw rainbow and was determined to make that work. Was a bit surprised TALKIER was accepted, but I’ll take it!
I came up with RAINBOWED (couldn’t believe this word was acceptable) and DATALINK. As Jo notes below, I also found these two words “fairly unsatisfying”.
Should also note that I found WRINKLED and (as an 8-letter word) considered it a top contender for part of the OA. But as the lunkhead that I am I didn’t spot DEADBOLT as a word that used all the remaining letters. Sheesh.
Found the OA Wrinkled Deadbolt but preferred the TI-improved alternative Wrinkled Downbeat (growing old is not for the faint-hearted), along with Downbeat Titlark, Talkier and Tinklier (the bird doesn’t really sound all that downbeat) and Knitwear Reboiled (Step Nine in the dyeing process).
OA and on first try!
OA for me, but not first try. I got WRINKLED immediately, and it took me forever to find DEADBOLT. Also played around with BEATNIK and TRAWLED.
KNITWEAR REBOILED
WRINKLED DELIBERATOR
Same. Socrates perhaps?
😂😂
Same…
C’mon already, we’re not getting any younger!
Or…
When you try to make a tough decision in the shower.
WRINKLED DOWNBEAT
same
also same
Downbeat Tinklier
WRINKLED – DOWNBEAT
Ratso Rizzo.
Preferred:
DOWNBEAT – TINKLER°
Prostate issues.
But LB says no.
°OED
But Tinklier has the same effect, so there’s that.
“I’m walkin’ here!!” 🙂
Sorry Bill, stepped on your line!
Your version is more authentic!!
I read where Dustin Hoffman ad-libbed that sequence and it was so good, the director left it in. Classic!
Hey, I’m walkin’ heah!
Same – suitable answer on my birthday week.
Same here with WRINKLED DOWNBEAT. Depressing image but thematic consistency. FWIW
LABIODENTAL — LINKWORK
Also found DOWNTREND, DOWNLOW, KNITWEAR, ORDAINED
These are awesome! Failed miserably today landing with PROWLED – DUTCH – HEFT 😞
DOWNBEAT – TALKIER, fairly quickly today, though I wasn’t sure TALKIER would be valid until it was accepted.
another DOWNBEAT-TALKIER. loquacious jazz musician?
Wrinkled Deliberator
DOWNBEAT – TINKLER*.
Wrinkled Deliberator
12 Angry Men 🙂
Got knitwear – reboiled. Wanted to find something to pair with karabiner but couldn’t make it work.
REOBTAINED—DOWNLINK
SATCOM back online.
🛰️
Nice. I couldn’t find a match with downlink (the E/T on the same side kept messing me up). Eventually found wrinkled/downbeat
I looked into DOWNBEAR and DOWNBENT as well. The former is in OED and the latter is in MW.
It seems uncommon for a word to be in Merriam-Webster but not Oxford. ☕
13/2s from other dictionaries:
KINBOT°—TRAWLED
KOWBIRD^—DENTAL
°OED: kinbot, variant of kinboot, n. A wergild or man-boot paid by a homicide to the kin of the person slain.
^MW: variant spelling of kobird: yellow-billed cuckoo.
That’s some definition! It takes you down a rabbit hole of definitions of definitions.
wrinkled – deadbolt
tinklier-rainbow
Randy!
RAINBOWED DOWNLINK.
I guessed RAINBOWED.
Had DOWNBEAT TRINKLE* (I don’t see why the latter’s not allowed. It’s in MW and OED.)
Went with KNITWEAR REBOILED instead.
An optimal 3,
WORT – TINKLED – DAB (14)
BOWERED – DATALINK
INDOLENT TWERKBABE – Winner of Rupauls Drag Race. Ok so it wasn’t accepted but given some of the solutions I’ve seen over time in this game can you blame me for thinking ‘well maybe’ as I typed. Yup this game has elasticized my poor vocabulary.
Drawler – Robotnik. I didn’t think those were words.
Talkier rainbowed
This is an excellent answer, Pat, and seemingly unique! Kudos!
OA for me too, and also:
WRINKLED DOWNBEAT
I think i also saw DELIBERATED but just said “Pfft, why bother?”.
I did also try:
BARTOW WRINKLED
but LB didn’t accept bartow … i’ll have to look it up …
Nope!
Bartow is the name of the city near Lakeland and is also a fairly rare surname, but i couldn’t find any other definitions.
Oddly, there does not yet seem to be a page for Sept. 21. At any rate, PRODUCT – TWELFTH. I have no idea if it is the OA.
Imagine my disappointment when neither LB nor Scrabble would let me get away with DEFLECT – THROWUP.
