      1. Same here and completely agree. Did get KNITWEAR but failed to see REBOILED before moving on. Tried to pair BOBTAILED and BARDOLATOR with something but then saw rainbow and was determined to make that work. Was a bit surprised TALKIER was accepted, but I’ll take it!

    1. I came up with RAINBOWED (couldn’t believe this word was acceptable) and DATALINK. As Jo notes below, I also found these two words “fairly unsatisfying”.

      1. Should also note that I found WRINKLED and (as an 8-letter word) considered it a top contender for part of the OA. But as the lunkhead that I am I didn’t spot DEADBOLT as a word that used all the remaining letters. Sheesh.

        1. Found the OA Wrinkled Deadbolt but preferred the TI-improved alternative Wrinkled Downbeat (growing old is not for the faint-hearted), along with Downbeat Titlark, Talkier and Tinklier (the bird doesn’t really sound all that downbeat) and Knitwear Reboiled (Step Nine in the dyeing process).

    1. OA for me, but not first try. I got WRINKLED immediately, and it took me forever to find DEADBOLT. Also played around with BEATNIK and TRAWLED.

          1. Your version is more authentic!!

I read where Dustin Hoffman ad-libbed that sequence and it was so good, the director left it in. Classic!

      1. I looked into DOWNBEAR and DOWNBENT as well. The former is in OED and the latter is in MW.

It seems uncommon for a word to be in Merriam-Webster but not Oxford. ☕

    1. 13/2s from other dictionaries:
      KINBOT°—TRAWLED
      KOWBIRD^—DENTAL

°OED: kinbot, variant of kinboot, n. A wergild or man-boot paid by a homicide to the kin of the person slain.

^MW: variant spelling of kobird: yellow-billed cuckoo.

  1. Had DOWNBEAT TRINKLE* (I don’t see why the latter’s not allowed. It’s in MW and OED.)

    Went with KNITWEAR REBOILED instead.

  2. INDOLENT TWERKBABE – Winner of Rupauls Drag Race. Ok so it wasn’t accepted but given some of the solutions I’ve seen over time in this game can you blame me for thinking ‘well maybe’ as I typed. Yup this game has elasticized my poor vocabulary.

  3. OA for me too, and also:
    WRINKLED DOWNBEAT
I think i also saw DELIBERATED but just said “Pfft, why bother?”.
    I did also try:
    BARTOW WRINKLED
but LB didn’t accept bartow … i’ll have to look it up …
    Nope!
Bartow is the name of the city near Lakeland and is also a fairly rare surname, but i couldn’t find any other definitions.

  4. Oddly, there does not yet seem to be a page for Sept. 21. At any rate, PRODUCT – TWELFTH. I have no idea if it is the OA.

Imagine my disappointment when neither LB nor Scrabble would let me get away with DEFLECT – THROWUP.
