Sides of this Letter Box are:
UMBTFSHIOALW
The answers are:
FLOWWHATABOUTISM
OA. That was strange. Spent ages on BLOWFISH and SAILBOATS. Didn’t honestly believe WHATABOUTISM would be an allowed word given how many more obvious words are not.
Me too! Got the OA after messing with BLOWISH and MOUTHFULS for ages.
BLOWFISH…
I about fell off my chair when it accepted WHATABOUTISM! Backed into FLOW from there. OA for me
Same here after Blowfish and Botulism.
WHATABOUTISM-MILF ? Not accepted so FLOW did the trick.
Sorry but I’m new. Isn’t the goal to use all the letters but the fewest number of times? So ideally, one word never repeating a letter, or two words repeating only the one joining letter etc. wouldn’t BLOWFISH HAUT TOM is 15 letters. Does it beat 2 words using more than 15 letters or no?
I used to fight the same battle, Rick, but ultimately I realized there are no rules, and it’s really a question of suiting oneself. The number of words and the aesthetic balance between efficiency and “thematic integrity“, or TI, is purely self-imposed. Some of us make up sub/games, the equivalent of the unofficial “family rules“ that tend to evolve for Monopoly. For instance, using the maximum number of letters over the maximum number of words, or looking for bird or animal names or particular words we’re fond of. This openness and creativity is the main lure of the game for most of us. Note that what we call the “official answer“, or OA, is presented merely as “our solution“ by the LB puzzlemasters, not The Solution. The only sure thing is that there’s always a two-word answer. I think we’d all consider a single-word solution using all 12 letters, regardless of length, would be the Holy Grail. But even the one time I remember seeing a single-word solution, it was not the OA.
OA and
WHATABOUTISM – MOUTHFUL…
And they will and they are and it makes me tired.
WHATABOUTISM – MOUTHFUL here. A strangely satisfying solve today.
Same process through Blowfish etc to EVENTUALLY find Flow Whataboutism and Whataboutism Mouthful, both aptly describing Faux News and its ilk. I don’t believe there’s a solution without Whataboutism, a very new word. OTOH, it’s a good one. So a toss-up.
Whataboutism—mouthful right here as well.
Good grief!!
Flow Whataboutism
Still can’t believe it 🤦🏼♀️
Same. I could not believe this was the OA.
i know we all agree that this was difficult, but have you considered how hard the connections has become? Or how the wordle is now using partials of words as acceptable answers?
They’re halving the words. They’re coming to this country and cutting the words in half and using them for answers.
🤣😂
A flow of whataboutism…? 🤔
😆
Ha! 🤣🤣🤣
I have to agree. BEAUT is unacceptable….and Whataboutism is ridiculous, especially when perfectly OED words are not accepted.
Don’t get me started on Yiddish 😠
Clayton, I’ve noticed that trend as well. Especially with Connections where the associations have become more and more obscure and dubious.
Yeah! Beaut? That’s gotta be coming from furriners!
Hey Clayton – reading your comment a few days later …
I agree that Connections does seem to have gotten a lot harder lately, i guess over the last month or so …
Another hour… wasted away… no way would I have found this solution.
I agree. I would have never found this solution, either. Moving onto other activities for today. Tomorrow, I will look at a new puzzle and try again to find a two-word solution.
This sort of answer is just stupid. I prefer a three-word answer over the OA. I went with MOW-WOLFISH-HABITUS
WHATABOUTISM — MOUTHFUL A lot like the debates! 🙂
Also found ABSOLUTISM but couldn’t pair it. LB does accept the plural of ISM words for whatever reason.
Found BLOWFISH, AUTOMOBILIA(S), AUTOMOBILISM, but I can’t come up with a pairing word for any of them.
and whatabout BOTULISM…..
And Absolutism…
See what I mean 😒
I got BLOWOUT and FAMISH. Unfortunately, couldn’t link them. 😁
Spent some time first on BASHFUL and WISHFUL thinking the answer would definitely be something ~FUL. Then found OA, but only after being disappointed that WHATABOUTISM – MILF wasn’t accepted (half expected it to be the OA…)
Omg, I meant to try WHATABOUTISM but forgot, got sidetracked, settled for 3w BASHFUL LIMIT TOW (also had a made up non-word for 2w Wishful “Lobotoma”). Oy… had FLOW in a 4w too.
A suboptimal 4,
FLUSH – HABIT – TOM – MOW (16)
Made up my own. FISHTAILS SWIM MOBIUS****
Never in a million years would I have got WHATABOUTISM. I think I possibly have seen that word maybe once in my life. Glad I gave up when I did. Unfortunately I still spent a long time on this today.
I found BLOWFISH, AUTOMOBILISM, AUTOMATISM/S, FISHTAIL/S, WOLFISH, BLOWOUT, FAMILISM, SHUTOUT, MOUTHFULS, BASHFUL and more.
Ended up with BLOWFISH HUT TAM.
All excellent words.
A lot of these leave the same group of letters that just can’t be connected to each other.
This puzzle sucked. Good for you those of you who came up with whataboutism. I came up with a lot, but not that.
🤣

I think yesterday’s presence of kryptonite has affected my mental abilities and limited me to 3-word solutions. However, I doubt I would ever considered whataboutism as part of a solution.
Failed this and yesterday’s. Looking to break this streak in an hour!
