  1. Missed this today. Apparently ZENITH HAMBURG was the only other acceptable solution. HAMBURG is indeed in the Scrabble dictionary but being a proper noun I cannot understand why. It’s also a breed of chicken so maybe that’s the reason?

    1. Saw Zenith Hamburger, and then as a last second thought decided to see if Hamburg would be accepted for a 13/2, and – surprise – it was !

  2. Official here as well, but only because I didn’t think to stop at Hamburg without the ER. Apparently it’s an accepted alternate spelling of hamburger.
I don’t believe any other two-word solutions are possible with this array, but I will certainly check in later to see if I’m wrong!

  3. ZENITH – HAMBURG here. If I recall correctly, a Hamburg steak was a popular dish among German immigrant to North America. It was a seasoned ground beef patty with no bun. This was gradually shortened to hamburg, and when someone put it between two halves of a bun, it became a hamburger. During World War I, it was rechristened the Salisbury steak in an effort to purge daily life of German references. In my neck of the woods, Berlin, Ontario, suddenly became Kitchener, Ontario.

        1. Really took some time to arrive at the solution. Tried combinations with Gigahertz. Found Hamburger first and Zenith as follow on.

    1. Official here as well. It didn’t occur to me that HAMBURG could be an option while, according to Dr. Google, it is also a black variety of grape of German origin.
It’s been an arduous one (as is typically the case with the single-solution editions) but, thankfully, I could afford more time from my Sunday leisure. The pathway to solve included ENIGMA, HERMIT, GRAZE, BRAZEN, MARGIN, AZURE, GRANITE, AMBIENT, GAUZE and AUBERGINE the latter forcefully replaced on the menu with something markedly less hygienic…

  4. Reason #27 why they don’t let LETTER BOXED -(ers) write song lyrics:

    🎶 when the moon in the sky’s like an big…delicious meat patty…🎶 that’s a-ZENITH-HAMBURGER 🎶

  5. Official here as well. Definitely thought I was on to something with GIGAHERTZ…. I got HAMBURGER first, then saw ZENITH and gave HAMBURG a shot – who knew? Sweet dreams all!
