  1. I got the slightly more efficient PTERODACTYL – LUX. I think I’ve used this word in one of my puzzles before. Absolutely LOVE the OA. Instant solution so nothing else to share!

    RF and Irim, waiting for both of your answers shortly 😁

    1. Also, a fun fact some people might find interesting: the word ‘LUXE’ has been used not three times, not four, but FIVE times in an OA since this game began. I believe it’s the first word to reach that milestone!

    2. I went to open Letter Boxed and without thinking, opened the first link, which was *this page*, not the NYT one – obviously because I come searching for your responses. Saw the first word before I looked away and so disqualified one of my favourite words. Therefore, my answer, fairly quickly, was CAUDATE-EXPLETORY. At least I got a science word in, even though, had I not seen it, PTERODACTYL-LUX would have been the first thing I tried.

      Two out of three in the triumvirate, join us soon, RF!

      Good luck, everyone, and happy Friday!

      1. Great job, Irim! I know, this has happened to me multiple times and it’s really frustrating when you see the solution before even getting a chance to solve the puzzle (especially when it’s singular).

        I’ve never heard of those two words before. Nice solution!

        1. Radioactive Flower

          I’m here Miss Irim and Kanishk-boy. My answer is: POLYACRYLATE – EXUDATE. So, the triumvirate is complete. It took me 38 minutes. Not too quick, not too long.

          Kanishk-boy, yes you use PTERODACTYL in one of your puzzles. Amazing! 👍

          1. Woohoo, hon! High fives and congrats all around.

            I know, I envy him using pterodactyl and am cross that I had to disqualify it. Much love, triumphant triumvirate!

          2. Ooh. Nice. Had Exudate. Couldn’t pair it. Took me quite awhile today, despite having seen Dactyl relatively early. Had also seen Poly- so gave up on it when Polydactyl wasn’t an option with YD on the same side. Came back to it hours later and saw Pterodactyl while walking to my car. Yay. Also chose the OA adjacent more efficient LUX. 116/128, 7/8, 6, 36

    1. Also ELECTROPLATE EXUDATORY*
      * in OED as obsolete, But it is still in usage. “Social Insects. Volume 3. By Henry Hermani, 2012”

  2. PTERODACTYL—LUX
    ACAUDATE—EXPLETORY
    ADULATOR—RECTOPEXY
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    EXUDATE ⇄ ELECTROTYPE
    ELECTROTYPE ⇆ EXUDATE
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  3. Catherine Gardiner

    Today I did not succeed. I found Luxury & a few EX words but I could not find a single pairing.
    The only word I know beginning with PT IS PTARMIGAN which is a grouse like bird indigenous to the Canadian North. And, I know zilch about dinosaurs.

  4. Tried electroplate perceptual excretory creatively laudatory receptacle relaxatory polyoxalate luxator auto play tadpole polecat
