Compliment travel
IMPORTANCE EVIL
Same. Which is way more efficient than the official answer.
Evict trampoline
TRAMPOLNE-EVICT
what Optimus Prime says when he is tired of the fad exercise equipment in his apartment 😉
Thats TRAMPOLINE-EVICT
Same here, within seconds, literally. It’s a reciprocal one too, but I’m not exactly clear as to which way around it makes more sense -if at all (I’ll probably leave it with MVUA et al.).
I mean, if only it was as simple as pressing ‘Eject’ and away with ’em…
It’s slim pickings once again on the LBF front -an unimpressive 7½ & if there’s one thing I’m sure to take away from it long term, is ending up knowing the scrabble values by heart.
That’s “the pot calling the kettle black”, isn’t it?
Or should I say “the bot calling the kettle black”?
😉
Gotta admit, human eyes can still beat bot eyes. Either that, or you need better software, because if I can tell, well… oh, by the way, I like how you’re grooming your second bot. Interesting development. Don’t worry, I won’t call it out too soon. I’ll play neutral, like Switzerland, for awhile. 😄 🍺
Some software that would allow me to maybe work out a shedload of solutions 5 minutes into the puzzle, and then fool around with 2 and 3-letter breakdowns? Is that what you have in mind? Admittedly, such a thing is still foreign to me (and TBH I don’t know that I would be a great fan of it, anyway).
Yes, like that. But, why do the bot thing? I’m curious, really.
And I don’t crawl over to some solving app, hijack solutions, and then masquerade them here.
C’mon Sota, tell me why you do the bot thing. I can’t subpoena you, so it’s voluntary, but wow, I never saw anything like it. I knew you were a gunslinger, of sorts, way back then.
I’m losing the thread on Mark’s bot issue. Did I miss something?
Not at all. I just think it’s fair game to call out the fact that Sota21 uses bot technology. I mean why pretend it otherwise. It’s not illegal technically, but in my view, it’s a mild form of deceit. So let it be written. 🙂
I was (& still am) happy that this forum remains relatively immune to social media toxicity and is, generally, a place where far more light than heat is generated.
When I was first called a bot, I thought of it as a (backhanded) compliment and opted to soak up the acclaim. Last time I checked, I was a mere mortal human being (& I have the silicon & kevlar tests to prove it 🙂 ). But I also have a huge amount of experience in relation to obtrusive neighbors, and have concluded that the way to deal with them is to plug my ears (if I have to) and, at all costs, avoid getting as nosy and noisy as they are -I would definitely not contemplate moving house on their own terms.
So they can carry on clowning about if they so wish -without me. I’d just hope that (for their own sake) they find a way of moving away from the dark cloud that’s parked itself above their heads…
Ok, so you’ve come clean then? I really haven’t been sure if I’ve been talking to Sota, or SotaBOT!. But ok, out of fairness, and a sense of sportsmanship, I put forth a truce.
Steph,
I was revisiting Optimus as well. It seems he’s having a rough weekend…
“Complainer, revert!”

Also, to no effect.

👍Ray!
That’s today’s dinner sorted (it was bound to be lunchtime somewhere around the globe)!
This is my favorite of the day!!! Nice job 🙂
Another COMPLAINT-TRAVEL: rude tourists. COMPLIANT-TRAVEL and COMPLIMENT-TRAVEL would be the more adaptable and appreciative ones.
AVARICE-ELOPEMENT for greedy lovers…
I couldn’t manage anything shorter than VIRAEMIC – COMPLEMENTAL. Well, there was VIREMIC – COMPLEMENTAL, but I decided to stick with the British spelling.
…which is slightly more to the point as regards the original Greek word (same with OENOLOGIST Vs ENOLOGIST).
Valiance Emptor – buyer be brave. Gotta be in this new world of online merchants.
Or courage itself as merchandise…
Bernie, 👍
It seems to me that Valiance variants have been on offer several times in the last few puzzles. Messaging from The Universal?

IMPORTANCE – EVIL right out of the gate.
Today’s birds: PIPIPI, MOTMOT, RAVEN.
I’ve been watching for cormorant for months.
So close today!
As have I!
I saw one last Thursday (but around a lake not a square). And realize now that I’ve been mispronouncing it for many years.(leaving out the first r)

Speaking of COMPLAINT, the official list didn’t recognize MICROPLANE, an entire category of kitchen utensils—a do-able word which contains 10 of today’s letters.

Same here
COMPLIANCE – EVERT Tried evert on a whim – surprised but glad to learn a new word again! Went through LAMINATOR; PREVALENCE (T); INCORPORATOR; INCREMENTAL first. Happy time change all!
COMPLAINT–TAVERN
COMPAINER–REVERT
Haven’t come up with two solutions in a while. But with that being said, many of today’s solutions (including the official) generally include the same letters in each of their words. COMPLAINT, COMPLIANT, COMPILER, COMPLIANCE–TAVERN, TRAVEL, TRIVALENT. Interesting. I think it has a lot to do with how consonants tend to occur together. I know I wouldn’t fare nearly as well at these puzzles if I hadn’t taken a phonetics course in college.
PROCLAIMER REVENANT
Complainer Revert for me
Looks like lots of possibilities today.
Now I will go back to find the pangram on SB.
It’s one of those unusual days where I cracked LB first.

Quick but inefficient PROMINENCE and ELEVATOR.

PROCLAIMANT – TRAVEL
For some reason I went with PROCLAIMANT – TRAVELER, even though the extra “ER” were completely unnecessary. I guess it’s thematic at least. 🤷😝
Prominence – elevator
So many beautiful solutions here. I wish I found one, too, for my birthday, but now it’s past midnight here in Germany and the birthday is over. I must have been blind. Anyway, I have some threers to offer here, better than nothing:
VAMPIRE – ELECTRICIAN – NARCO
CLIP – PROMINENT – TAVERN
INCREMENT – TROPIC – CLAVE
VAMPIRE – ELECTORAL – LANE
INCREMENTAL – LOPE – EVIL
IMPLEMENTOR – REVAMP – PRICE
REVAMP – PROMINENT – TALC
MALICE – ELEVATOR – RIPEN
INTOLERENCE – ELEVATOR – RAMP
VIRAL – LAMENT – TOPIC
RELEVANCE – EMPIRE – ELECTRO
VAMPIRE – ELECTROMOTOR – RAN
INTOLERANCE – EMPIRE – EVENT
ELEVATOR – ROMANCE – EPIC
VAMP – PORCELAIN – NATAL
Awesome set! I haven’t messed with triples in a few weeks, being obsessed with the Quads lately. Good work.
