    1. Figured it had to be the official. And I like the movement, story/history, and artistry suggested by the answer.

    1. Haha MVUA. Glad to get a laugh when I didnt get the 2-word solve. Too much time spent on FAQUIR(S) thinking I’d outsmart the exotic LB trend this week.

  1. FIRSTMOST-TRANQUIL
Way too long, but I’ve decided to go with peace of mind over perfection in this game, so it’s fitting.

    1. Same here – Found TRANQUIL first and was disappointed that AFTMOST wasn’t valid. Finally circled back around and found FIRSTMOST. Not letter efficient, but time efficiency on my end makes me happy 🙂

  2. I also got fixated on TRANQUIL, not seeing a one-word match. TRANQUIL – LIFTS – STORM maybe contains a vague notion of transformation.

  3. Minima:
    QUILT—TRANSFORM

    Maxima:
    UNIFORMIST—TRANQUIL (unaccepted)

    Questionable:
    (AFTMOST or FARMOST)—TRANQUIL (both unaccepted)

    TRANQ ↘️
    TRANQ—QUALM—MISO—OFT
    OFT—TRANQ—QUALM—MISO
    MISO—OFT—TRANQ—QUALM
    QUALM—MISO—OFT—TRANQ

    Math/Phys/Chem (some can be pluralized):
ATOMIST, FUSION, ONIUM, QUANTA, QUANTUM, SONAR, STATOR, TORSION, TRANSISTOR, TRINOMIAL, TUTORIAL, URANIUM.

  4. MONTARIA-ALFAQUIS

Ok, so I’ll open with admitting to using a dictionary to find ALFAQUIS. The more interesting thing is that while MONTARIA was accepted, it does not seem to be a word in any dictionary (outside of a place in Portugal, which is a proper noun).

    1. It’a a rudderless boat used on the Amazon:
a Brazilian canoe made of a single piece of timber. (Collins English)
From the Portuguese, meaning a ‘mount’, as in something you ride, like a horse.

  5. Surrendered after messing around with “tutorial, furor, turmoil, uniform, aquanaut, quintals, unmutual, snail, altruist, almost, squint, tofu” and more. However, here’s a little shortfilm of my threeers for those with a vivid imagination:

    FILM – MOST – TRANQUIL
    MOST – TRANQUIL – LIFT
    SOFT – TRANQUIL – LIMO

Much respect for all you patient puzzleres out there, especially for DW with the birds and Mark with his incredible wordgames!

  6. One plate too many to be spinning at once, today, so I had to go stop-start about it.
Eventually, the official solution manifested itself, after messing about with QUATRAIN(S), SQUAT(S), SQUAIL(S), FORINT(S), QUALM, AQUARIAN, AQUARIUM, QUAINT, QUARTO, ALFAQUI(S), NOSTRUM, FAQUIR(S), (T)RANSOM, RAINSTORM, SQUIRT(S), UNIFORM, TALAQ (a heads-up that Q can occasionally detach itself from the obligatory U), QUINTAL(S), QUINTAR, QUANTAL, MISFORM, FANTOM, TRANQUIL -obviously, having had both FARMOST (ditto Patrick) and AFTMOST (ditto TK) rejected.
I dusted myself down and got back up to 13½ at LBF, and am really glad (others’ too, but) DW’s wrinkle, in particular, seems to be flowing so nicely; not ‘for the birds’ in the least!
