JUNKIES – SCARECROW immediately. Very refreshing to have a relatively easy puzzle after back-to-back fiendish ones!
Have never heard of KINKAJOU before. I wouldn’t have got this one if this was another one of those singular solution arrays. I like the word though, adding it to my vocabulary!

Woohoo, well done – so glad it was a quick one for you, finally. JUNKIES-SCARECROW here too – surprised it’s not the OA, who thinks ‘KINKAJOU’ – after playing around with CASEWORK, JOUNCIER, REINJURES, JERKINS, etc. for a bit.
Though to be fair, kinkajous are ugly cute!
Ditto! Surprised it wasn’t the OA. Never would have come up with KINKAJOU although I’m familiar with the odd-looking mammal 🙂 Off to SB.
In the same boat with you 3. Maybe Sam is (or isn’t) a fan of EB, JP, Cakes, and Lurch – The Sports Junkies – A morning radio show based on DC that I’ve listened to for over 25 years. Nice to be done before the end of the commute. 35/37, 6/6, 9, 16
JUNKIES-SCARECROW
Had same experience, quickly found this sad image…
Another JUNKIES – SCARECROW contestant here. I am surprised by comments by those who thought this solution would be the OA. I mean, JUNKIES? If someone can find another OA that uses a comparably derogatory term I’ll happily concede. On the other hand, KINKAJOU is a little on the precious side. I’m uncertain whether it’s in my passive vocabulary or not, but I can state with absolute certainty that it would *never* have materialized for me no matter how long I’d worked todays puzzle. (Also annoyed that there was no two-word solution involving SKUNKWORKS.)
I agree.Kinkajou is patently absurd as anOA.

Tragic.
I KNEW swankier had to be possible. *slaps forehead*
Glad I proceeded to find an alternate solution since I accidentally opened this site before solving. Intimidated and dismayed by KINKAJOU at first. Thought it might be a one-off.
JOUNCES – SWANKIER, too.

Kinkajous screw having looked at oa, shorter; surprised not to see it
Correction, Simon with kinkajous screw. Impressive!
Resorted to JOUNCIER RAWKS after somehow missing JOUNCES when I had JOUNCIER and SWANKIER and not being able to hook up CANKEROUS, among a lot of others.
