      1. OA and it took longer than forever. Came back repeatedly and only succeeded on my fourth return.

I hope this is not the beginning of a new phase…

    1. Cheers to Bernie! His animal friend is doing well, and his secret conditioning plan sure made this easy for me. Now, where did I park my yacht.

    2. Indeed! The return of our old friend the Wombat – and he’s Thriving! Excellent news! No need to look further! Besides, I’m running out of exclamation points!!

      1. LOL – I definitely thought of you on this one Bernie and the fact that you would love the TI today.

OA after stepping away from it for a few minutes. Got tangled in the IGHT’s and the ING’s and had a brief but unspectacular moment with VOMIT 🙂 Happy August all!

          1. Kind of the same for me too …
A great man i knew named Joe Boatwright died recently and I didn’t find out until week before last … BOATWRIGHT was so great because it only left VMN which Vitamin and perhaps some other words could handle but won’t connect to Boatwright.
I saw WAGONWRIGHT but “Not a word” (Naw)!
            Some other Naws!:
            MIRTHMOVING
            WRONGVOTING
            HAIRWAVING
            TOMATOGROWING
            THROWINGIRON
            WORTHAVING
            NOTWORTHAVING
            VIRGINMOTH
            INVIGOR
            TAINTWORM
            THRONGWITH
            MINGWORT
            and
            BIRTHMONTH

BIRTHWORT, interestingly, was “Genius!”, but couldn’t do anything with it either.

And i just didn’t remember “Work it out, Wombats”!!!
            😎

  1. WOMBAT — THRIVING

I spent quite a bit of time with MOTIVATING, MOTORBOAT, VITAMIN, BAGWORM, and VOMITORIA.

    1. Wow, BILL. VOMITORIA is quite a find!
Personally, I find it difficult to imagine more than one vomitorium at a time (the opulence, you know). ;^)

    1. Same here today. I have seen people say that they got the answer immediately, but today is the first time I ever did. THRIVING was the first word I tried and then saw WOMBAT right away, the whole thing took about 30 seconds.

      1. Excellent variation!

Gambow: A low, flat cart, typically two-wheeled and with the sides consisting only of poles, used for carrying hay, corn, etc., over fields or uneven ground.

  2. When under attack, wombats retreat to their burrow while baring their butts (of armor) to the outside. The predator cannot bite into the butt and as the predator attempts to go deeper into the burrow, the predator is literally crushed by the wombat’s butt through an evolutionarily developed twerking movement (of death). The predator is ground into the ground.

  3. Couldn’t find a two today. Found THRIVING but didn’t see WOMBAT.

Ended up with RIGHTWING GAMBO OVO. GAMBO and OVO were guesses.

Some other words I found: BATHMAT, MOTORING, INHABITING, AVOWING, MOTORBOAT, INGOT, RINGWORM, GAMBIT and BAMBINO.

  4. Everyone guessed all the answers…

Here is the full list. There are no Scrabble words today.

** Don’t look at the list if you haven’t finished solving the puzzle **

(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)

    1 – 14 thriving / gambow
    2 – 14 wombat / thriving

    1. For Gambit to work there would have to be a word that ends in g and
      contains all the letters: w, v, r, n, h, o. Or ends with t and contains all the letters w, v, r, n, h, o.

      Some possibilities are :

      throatwort
      wainwright
      birthright
      birthwort

      abrogating
      aviating
      avowing
      igniting
      inhabiting
      intwining
      maintaining
      mitigating
      motivating
      nonvoting
      rightwing
      vitiating
      throating
