also KNUCKLER—REPUTABLY
UNPACKER–RATABLY
UNPACKER-REPUTABLY

Almost gave up but then I got CANKER REPUTABLY. My only other complete answer took the full 5 words.
Same. I like it better than the official answer.
Official, and:
BACKPACKER – RELUCTANCY
(A polite description of my son’s former wife.)
PG and Mark, I wanted to balance your clever and reputable answers with something a bit less savory, and found:
UNREPUTABLY – YUCK
But unreputably was deemed unreputable, and rejected.
BACKPACKER RELUCTANCY
The feelings of a now older adult.
I may take long form today with PRETERNATURAL LAYBACK 2/20 nice theme if you are a climber
Oops perhaps I should have counted first I am a bit out of it from carpal tunnel surgery today as my excuse
You could even stretch that one more with PRAETERNATURAL.
PRETERNATURAL – LAYBACK here too. Impressive mountaineering.
Having spotted CYBERPUNK, I settled for the official answer, though TALC was largely a random way of combining the leftovers on my part…
Same. Wasn’t CYBERPUNK part of another official answer not too long ago? Or am I hallucinating again?
I’m pretty sure it was -not that long ago, either.
Actually CYBERPUNK wasn’t never an official answer until today. On 8/21, the official answer was CRYBABIES — SPUNK. Other possible solutions include BASIC — CYBERPUNK (or: CYBERPUNK — KAISER). I think maybe that’s what both you and DW remembered, I guess. 😊
“was never” an official answer … 😊
Thanks for the pointer to the specific date, Martin! You’re 100% right about it not having been the OFFICIAL answer & I did suspect that was the case when I replied to DW. Both DW & myself used it in our solutions (DW went ASPIC whereas I went BASIC). Out of interest, how did you manage to track down that session?
Martin,
Yes, I’m interested in revisiting some previous threads, and can only see those of the past week. How do we go deeper into the archive. Thanks for any tips.
What device have you been using, Jill? I once tried on my laptop and was able to go back to the dim & distant past and see the first ever posts including, among others (you guessed it) Bernie Horowitz! I just wouldn’t have a way of locating one particular session based on one word and am still mystified as to how Martin was able to pull that off!
Failed but found some interesting stuff:
>> BLANKET TRUCE (P,Y : and possibly a solution to some current dilemmas)
>> CLEANUP PYRE (K, B, T : how they do it in a lot of countries with poor waste management)
>> PACKET TURNTABLE (Y)
>> BLACKER RUNTY (P)
>> BLACKER REPUTABLY (N)

Yeah, that’s where I ended up too, Ryan. Pulled the plug on it just to get this over with!
PAYPACKET-TURNTABLE
Nice one, E!; always great to have TURNTABLEs back in full working order!
Failed today, although I did come up with BACKPACKER early on. Just didn’t see the REPUTABLY. Tomorrow is another day! Happy almost Halloween all!
