Good question, especially in the wake of the current controversy (such as it is) over Spelling Bee’s rejection of “undaunted”… As if doubling down, I note that today’s Spelling Bee rejects “unindicted” as a pangram. The nerve!
As for “shtup”, you’d think it would be rejected on multiple grounds – obscurity, foreignness, and naughtiness included.
