  1. Went totally off piste because I wanted GOLDFINCH to work or FLINCHED DRAGON to work so badly, but they didn’t.

Was gutted that ARCHFIEND wasn’t possible. I LOVE that word.

    So I went with ARCHEGONIA-AEFALD

But to be fair, if AEFALD is allowed, so should some of the other ones we see that are much more common, if unusual.

  2. CHRONOLOGICAL — LOAFED

Found CHONDRIA but LB doesn’t accept it. Then got LOGIC, LOGICAL, CHRONOLOGICAL (LB doesn’t like CHRONOLOGIC).

    1. I battled this one all day. Wrote down 227 words before finally cracking it. Had all kinds of -Genic words Carcinogenic, Echogenic, Radiogenic, Necrogenic, Halogenic. Thought I had a good chance to finish Negligence, Indigence, and Diligence to no avail.. Also had some fun ones like Hedgehog, Roadhog, Roadhead (a little salacious for LB), Gearhead, Hacienda, Encroached… But nothing worked until Chronological. Finished it with Loafed for the OA.

  3. Now that Bernie has disappeared, I am the person who has been on this site the longest. It used to be a lot of fun. The norm many years ago was that everyone contributed their first solution (and only their first solution). So everyone got to play. There was banter and camaraderie. Bernie waxed eloquent. Jill posted poems. Sota21 contributed Greek arcana. Now, by the time I wake, all possible solutions have been posted in a show-offy kind of way. Only MVUA’s and IRIM’s witticisms add value. Time to move on.

    1. As you have just shown, the “elders” among us have institutional knowledge to share. Banter poems arcana collegiality still available. Hope you rethink things

    2. So true. The “game” really was secondary. It was a community of somewhat like minded people in dialog.
      We’ve been co-opted into silence

    3. Have to agree. I never have liked the billboarding of possible answers. What’s the point? I can go to the LB Solver site for that. Hope you stay, DW.

    4. Oh bless you, I hope you stay – I just think it’s nice to share where I got irimtated & maybe the odd pun. But I wholeheartedly agree, and I’m particularly annoyed by the *good in OED or whatever. It doesn’t matter – if it’s not accepted, it’s not a solution.

Frankly, I solve it, get a decent coffee in celebration, and move on. If I wanted to see a list of solutions, I’d go to Alice Yang’s Letter Boxed Solver.

        1. Well, maybe be respectful of the feedback. At least for me, and it sounds like others, your posting every solution you can come up with is actually more annoying than it is impressive.

    5. I’m a lurker here but have been for about four or five years. I, too, miss the contributions of Jill, Bernie, and Sota. I would miss your birds and entries, but understand that the culture has shifted (not in a way I enjoy, but folks can do as they please).

    6. I understand, but I’m genuinely sad about it.
May the birds display vividly wherever you choose to wander.
      Cheers DW!

  4. OA after many tries with CARDIOGENIC, but gave up and come up with CARCINOLOGICAL. Still didn’t work, but spotted CHRONOLOGICAL then. This one was tough

      1. Yep; took a flier on fliege.maybe because took German in college. And of course there it was in all encompassing Wictionary! At least found the OA first

  5. OA, and surprised it was the OA. Thought it might be something with ARCHAEOLOGICAL, but LB wouldn’t take FONDA, so gave up on it.
