    1. Well played, PG! On the evidence of what’s already been submitted, I would expect lots of niche and hipstery answers to be on the way in this one.

  2. TANKA*
    14 October

    night bibliophiles
    weave their ether-like letters
    into syllabic cadence,
    dense amphibole syntaxes,
    epiphenomenal dreams.

*A Japanese form of five lines.
The 1st and 3rd lines have five syllables, the 2nd, 4th and 5th have seven.

    1. I could see it coming, Jill, the moment I saw PG’s solution; still astonishing you were able to work it out with just that material!

  3. Incidentally, my solution is the only one yet that doesn’t contain any element of Greek; not sure how that’s supposed to make me feel 🙂

      1. And not a bad one at all that you eventually found; the abridged version, too (rather than the more consistent w/ Greek that would be OENOOPHILE).

          1. Yes, that’s the spelling I knew—and it’s the solution I came up with.
            Couldn’t get EMBARKATION to work.

    1. MOBIKE – ELEPHANT too. Never heard of MOBIKE though!
Thought I’d cracked it with AKIMBO – OLIPHANT until I noticed the E was missing…

  4. Fun one involving a word I never knew existed:

    HIKOI IMPLANTABLE (2/16)
boom (made me very happy after hours of the following failures):

    MILKEN NAPTIME (haha)
    KEMPT TIMETABLE
    PENITENT TALK
IMPOLITE EBANK (no H but good imagery)
ELEPHANT TIMEBOMB (no K. Awful idea)
BLANKET TEMPO (no H or I, but sounds like someone is describing Muse haha)
BLANKET TEMPLE (the worship of haberdashery)
AMPHETAMINE EBANK (no O or L and hope I’m not giving any unscrupulous would-be entrepreneurs any ideas)
PHENOL LAMENTABLE (no T or M)
    PHENOMENAL LIKABLE (no T)
    PHENOMENAL LINKABLE (no T again)
PHENOME EMBANKMENT (no I or L)
TALKTIME EBON (no H or P)

And some random words all alone:
    ELEPHANTINE (rather like this list)
    TAMABLE
    BANKABLE
    ELEMENTAL
ANTINATIONAL (excellent additional letter futility score)
    KNOB
    BLOKE
    PLANK
    KOMBI
    BIKABLE
    MOBILE
    IMPOLITE
LAMINATION (no friend I could find)
    LAMENTATION
    HABITATION
    AMBITION
    OBLATION
    PALATABLE
    IMPALPABLE
    OINK
    BIOME
    PEON
    EPITAPH
    PATENTABLE
    NEMA

    1. Wow, now that’s what I call a list! Kudos to you, Hy!

I’d like to add one suggestion which might qualify as one of DW’s ‘fun but not allowed’ words:

      BATMOBILE 🙂

      1. Thanks Katie.

Batmobile is a great find in the illegal camp.

I’ve found some fun illegal ones the last week or two:
Today was just “Hankmobile” which is nothing much.

        But one Saturday I got:
“URINAL LOCH” (not illegal but funny considering just how much fluid must be involved)
And on Thursday I got SWANLORD, and then one I laughed at a good amount: BASTARDTOWN

  5. I spent all morning trying to win while using PIMPMOBILE as one of my words.

Unfortunately, I was only able to win with HEMP-POINTBLANK 😔
