  1. Official, and instanter – a gift of time on a busy day – but I’m enjoying folks’ alternate answers. There go those models, shlumping down the runway, faces as vacant as a lumpfish.

  2. Official, but only after cussing at the puzzle for not accepting LUMPFISH – HYPONOIA. Don’t the puzzle makers appreciate Greek? Or maybe they suffer from hyponoia.

In other news, Spelling Bee today was just to my taste! Quick enough to justify spending the time. I wish there were more like that.

    1. I found that wrinkle about the English meaning of the term HYPONOIA compelling; and just because I wasn’t aware of the condition, doesn’t mean I don’t experience it -at least occasionally. 😉
It’s a literal expression of its components’ amalgamation, HYPO standing for ‘under’ & NOUS for ‘mind’, ‘sense’, ‘mindfulness’, etc.
The Greek meaning -akin to the second English definition- is that of ‘suspicion’, a belief based on an insufficient body of evidence.

  3. Was so sure that my discovery of PHI INFAMOUSLY was going to be this niche alternative answer that rocked the Letterboxed world haha… nope. It’s the ruddy official one.

I guess I thought this because this is how much I went through before I found it:

  4. Got polynomial quickly but as there is no lumpfish in my lexicon was left stumped. Then got the official. Was unaware that phi was the golden ratio. As an architect I should have known. Thanks for that Walt!
