  1. BEREFT-TOXICOLOGY (OA) in about 10 minutes. Had thought about EXOERGIC and FIERCELY, played around with a few non-possibilities, then saw TOXIC and knew it was part of the solution. Went for TOXILOGIC, then thought, no, I need to use the Y, and as soon as I put in TOXICOLOGY, I saw BEREFT.

    Kanishk and RF, my lovelies, hope to see you soon!

    Good luck, everyone, and happy Hump Day!

        Miss Irim, I failed again, twice in a row. Huhuhu…Crossing my fingers for Kanishk-boy. I only saw half the OA which is TOXICOLOGY. BEREFT eluded me. Huhuhu. Well done Miss Irim.

        1. I failed too, RF! Spent HOURS on this one – was a hundred percent sure TOXICOLOGY would be part of the OA, no matter how hard I tried, I never saw BEREFT. Also thought REFLEXIBLE might lead me to a solution.

          Well done, Irim!

          1. Oh, my lovelies, I’m so sorry! To be SO close. *hugs all around* and tomorrow is another day.

            BTW, Kanishk, weirdly, once Duolingo started making me deal with words, the letters started to make sense!

          2. I’m really glad to hear that, Irim! Once you’re done with the letters, you’ve basically covered the hardest part. You’ll start learning simple sentences in no time!

            Hope you’re having fun with it. How can I help?

          3. So, because I grew up hearing and trying to speak Urdu/Punjabi, I instinctively know when to say ‘khata hai’ or ‘khati hai’ (that’s eat, in case my transliteration is wrong), but I don’t know the rule. What is the difference?

          4. They both mean the same thing, but the only difference is gender agreement. In simple terms, ‘khata hai’ is the equivalent of ‘he eats’, and ‘khati hai’ is ‘she eats’.

            The ‘root’ in this case is ‘kha’ which is basically the infinitive equivalent of ‘to eat’ in English. Masculine verbs end with ‘ta’ and feminine with ‘ti’, and this rule can be generalised to almost every verb (with few excpetions). For example-

            ‘वह बोलता है’ – He talks
            ‘वह बोलती है’ – she talks

            In short:
            -a / -ta -> masculine
            -i / -ti -> feminine

          5. Thank you – that was what I was beginning to think, but wasn’t sure I was making the right connection. Thank you!

  2. Didn’t get any sleep last night. So got stuck on this one thanks to being set on REFLEXOLOGY and REFLEXIBLE. And surprised BIOTOXICOLOGY and BIOTOXIC not accepted. Altho I could not match them up.

    I will add this alternative to the OA just for fun.

    OA today. Spent too much time looking to pair Reflexology. So from there I went to Toxicology which paired nicely with one of my earliest finds, Bereft.

  4. suspected singular solution:
    BEREFT—TOXICOLOGY
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    pseudo-solutions:
    FERTOTOXICʷ—CYBERGIRLʷ
    REFLEXOLOGICʷ—CYBERTEXTʷ
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ʷ Wiktionary
    A very tight array today. The only half-solution I could find was with a proper name, IBYCTER—REFLEXOLOGY, with Ibycter being a genus of birds.

  5. OA , took a while . First reflexology cytology teleology bicycle tricycle Exercycle foible biology and others , finally saw toxicology!
