HOUSEWORK – KIBITZ … less talking, more dusting
Haha ! OA too . What initially seemed an intimidating array, solved easily. And yes, DHW, I grew up in the best part of NY for kibitzers: Brooklyn.
Ditto, Steph!
Momentarily distracted by Bouzoukis, which couldn’t be paired, before moving on to the Dusting Chat Room… The OA is probably a one-off, I think.
I note it was finding Brisket (as in My Mother Makes the Best) that caused me to recall LB’s Yiddische leanings, hence Kibitz.
Failed to get anywhere near the OA. I guess this is one of those days where we non-native New Yorkers needed some help lol. KIB(B)UTZ was the closest I got the OA part 2
Same. Got stuck with SOUTHWEST, WHISKS, BRISKS, etc liked the idea of Z at the end (ie SHOWBIZ) but missed KIBUTZ so completely!
OA – had never heard of kibitz before but as always with LB gave it a whirl anyway. Love learning AmE informal words or words from other languages used commonly in the US and perhaps not elsewhere
OA. Kibbitz is normally spelled with 2 b’s, in my experience.
OA in minutes. Kibitz came first, even for this native Californian. 🙂

HOUSEWORK – KIBITZ
We have aunts.
boooo! ;^)
Agreed. Ok with the Z but still…
THIS, This! Too funny
OA. Feels familiar (the solution, I mean. Housework is well behind schedule).
OA
I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to pair SOUTHWEST, BRISKET, and/or BOUZOUKIS (that one uses all the difficult letters).
OA.
Housework-kibitz on the kibbutz.
Thought it might be a Yiddish word. I think the same thing happened last time KIBITZ was part of the solution. I didn’t know it then, and I didn’t know it today. It’s hard to remember words that you’ve only seen on Letterboxed. I feel it’s a little bit unfair to have Yiddish words as part of the solution when it’s almost an entirely unknown language in Scotland where I’m from, and I’m guessing in lots of other places too. It makes winning the game pretty exclusive.
My solution: WORKHOUSES SIZIST TUB.
Agree. I had an idea it might include a Yiddish word, and decided not to spend more time. Good decision.
OA, as I suspect is mandatory today. Was stumped for awhile with the Z, then remembered — of course! — Ezersky loves using Yiddish words… Pretty easy after that.
Got it, HOUSEWORK KIBITZ, was just about to give up with 4w’s. Earlier I had spelled it KIBUTZ, then finally got Housework (Had got Workhorse/s and Workhouse/s), had a made up 2w: WORKHORSES (or WORKHOUSES) SITZTUB but it’s not a word.
RUBOUTS / SKEW / WHIZ
Sooooooo glad I gave up. No chance at getting KIBITZ and would have wasted a lot of life.
Ditto!!
me too only much later.
I tried WORTHIEST and BOUZOUKI
and WHITEHOUSE
and even WORKHORSE and
WORKHOUSE and couldn’t get a pair.
But HOUSEWORK didn’t ring a bell. And I don’t know who KIBITZ is. I even tried KUBETZ but LB didn’t like him either.
PS – my 4-wd was:
HOWZIT THRUST TRIBE EKE
PPS – LB didn’t like TRUSTWORTHIEST either – what’s not to like about her?
OA. But took quite awhile. Surprised you can spell Kibitz with one b, but kibbutz requires two.
Same here. Got it. But it took a long time.
OA, after a few days of getting one word of the two words solved and not seeing the other. I thought kibitz was two b’s but maybe that’s kibbutz?
Kibitz was the first word I found, but never saw housework. I did find several good words:
Strikeouts
Briskets
Whiteouts
Worthiest
Ritziest
Outbursts
Whitehouse wasn’t accepted
