      1. hey, Sota, it’s me, your favorite enemy. Don’t worry (and don’t wet your pants like yesterday 🤣), it’s not my life’s mission to expose you. Just wanted to touch base, and see how you’re doing. Were you impacted by that terrible train crash in Athens? You must have heard about it. You work in retail, as I recall, right? It was all over the news here in the US. But I digress… I really wanted to make sure you know my name, since you haven’t used it in soooo loooong. It’s MARK. We’ve been hanging out for a year already, so what the heck? I’ve learned that’s part of the bot strategy, to build coalitions from your feigned friendships, while at the same time, trying to isolate your formidable foes. Fascinating! Kind of like politics. Can you actually control the personalities of your bots? Incredible. I’ll need to read up on that type of software sometime. Do you create your own programs, or do you use off-the-shelf solutions? I’m thinking the latter; because if you were that talented to write your own bot software, well then the sky’s the limit I guess. It does seem to be a little rough around the edges; however, I am glad that your second bot has, at least, a more dignified persona. Not like that bratty, opinionated version one. Was is male, female, maybe other? Oh, yes, that’s right, we make the rules as we go along. I’ve compiled some comical exchanges from not that long ago. I’m not trying to be mean, or vindictive, it’s not my nature, usually. Although I do inherit my bad qualities from my late father (Irish Catholic). Impulsiveness. Stubbornness. Unyieldingness. I do think however that the newer users of this forum have a right to know what they’re dealing with. So I shall bring it to the forefront, from time to time, as I deem fit.

        There is another idea I wanted to share with you. It’s a theme! We know that you’ve always stressed efficiency over any sort of thematic consideration (that’s another chapter btw, with lots of fun examples), but I hope you’ll kindly indulge me. Have you ever read about those pure white shepherd dogs? You know, in Central Italy. They’re raised from puppies, purposefully, within the flock. Within a year or so, he’s tearing out from his territory, and directly attacking the wolf. Can you see it? Pretty cool imagery I think. Bet you never counted on that shepherd dog a year ago. Okay, enough for today, I don’t want to get too cocky (yeah, remember that word too?).

        Ah, SotaBOT! Ah, humanity!*

  1. ( I missed the midnight bell to post this on yesterday’s thread. Thanks to all who contributed to the word discoveries.)

    A REVANANT at THE RAVEN*

    From pub to pub, until last call,
    A pint or four, a dartboard wall–
    Our late-night incremental crawl.

    A haunted tavern, cold as rime,
    Where avarice and sin are prime;
    An empire ripe with malice crime.

    When minimal in her element,
    (elopements are a hush event)
    Here comes the valiant revenant.

    The barman, in benevolence
    Bestows the traveler compliments;
    Her presence takes on prevalence.

    Behind the bar, and glowing grim
    A clip of spell on porcelain trim
    Evicts all evil lies and sin.

    Then epic romance, torrid scene!
    Emotion on a trampoline,
    Yet short and sweet, and quite unseen.

    On his proclaiming revenant
    The barman gazes with content
    And more! before her sly ascent.

    CODA
    And still the tavern-keeper swore
    “Revamp! Comport!” with every pour;
    “The Raven’s ghost is nevermore.”**

      I was excited to find Submit Tovarich, full of TI as it is. But I admit Brouhaha Activism ain’t too shabby in the TI department either!

      1. Right-o, BH! I liked the TI, but was a bit surprised (though I’m not sure why I’m surprised anymore) to see such a non-efficient word as BROUHAHA take part in the official solution. It’s what I came up with, but then again, I don’t find the official all too often.

        I was one of those who couldn’t find a match for SUBATOMIC, but I’m happy to see that someone else did. BRACHIATOR(S) was another tempting waste of time.

  2. Bye bye my fellow puzzlers! I have to leave out LB due to lack of time in the months to come. Was a pleasure to be here, but as for now, I have to limit my puzzling activities to Wordle and Spelling Bee. Wish you much fun with LB! hlg

    1. It was nice being in your company, HLG! Looking forward to you rejoining us (provided the forum is still around by then). 😉

  3. RHOTACISMS – SUBVIRUS. The puzzle rejected the latter, but it is a playable Scrabble word, so I will take it for the win.

    Today’s birds: MOTMOT and TOMTIT, both of which are making regular appearances, and one new one, CARACARA.

      1. Amazing how many bird names consist of reduplicated syllables; they are, indeed, in a league of their own. That’s such an awesome concept, DW -and KP seems to be K(eeping u)P!

        1. I imagine it’s onomatopeic, and birds are repetitive. I got into birding for about a minute, then realized that I just had too many hobbies.

          1. It evidently is. Still impressive how many different languages seem to converge in using that method -Greek rarely does (off the top of my head, I can only think of ‘caracaxa’, which is funnily what a magpie is called).

    1. Couldn’t do it in two today. Had prerty high hopes for RHOMBUS but didn’t see ACTIVATOR to partner it with. An interesting find for me today was VICTORIAS which I wouldn’t have thought acceptable. I ended up with RHOMBUS SATIVA ACT. Never heard of TOVARICH until now. I googled it and Google had it spelled with ‘sh’ instead of ‘ch’ so I guess that’s two new potential options for me in the future hehe.

  4. I hit an 8 at LBF, marginally improving yesterday’s 7½ performance; baby-stepping it towards the top -before plummeting back into the abyss; I acknowledge the Sisyphean nature of that undertaking, but, I reckon, a great number of similarly pointless tasks could substitute for it.

  5. Interesting Pair:
    SUBATOMIC—CHARIVARI

    AIRT ↘️
    AIRT—TUBS—SCHMO—OVA
    OVA—AIRT—TUBS—SCHMO
    SCHMO—OVA—AIRT—TUBS
    TUBS—SCHMO—OVA—AIRT

    Math/Phys/Chem:
    ATOMIC, BROMIC, COSMOS, MHO, OHM, OHMIC, OSMOSIS, OSMOTIC, RHOMB(US), SUBATOMIC, TORUS, TRIATOMIC, TUTOR.

    Two new words today:
    AIRT
    CHARIVARI

  6. Well jumping the gun here but 1215pm and looking like one of those late days. Very quick so guessing official PINCERS SUBWAY
