The answers are:
VLOGSSWEATSHIRT
Travelogs Swish
… Some great travelogues that stress phonics.
Or
Whist Travelog
… Travelogue with the remaining letters smashed at the beginning to see if they are a word. And they are! Now that’s what I call kənˈsīs!
WHIT – TRAVELOGS here. Just a tad shorter.
… than TRAVELOGS – SWISH, of course. Actually, I like WHIST – TRAVELOG best of this set; reminds me of some of my favourite bridge writers.
GRAVITATES – SLOWISH
(like our skydiver of last week?)
… shy crushes?
Nice!
I note that the puzzle will not accept GRAVITIES. Scrabble does.
Same for me: Gravitates – Slowish
Wrights travelog
See the sights of Kitty Hawk
Gravels-showiest. I know it makes no sense but it was what came after gravesites. Light, white, right, high, and short were potential compound words that went no where for me. And loaves-wright used all the letters but did not connect for me.
… aquarium rocks?
Or maybe a mixed gem gravel healing pack on Etsy for $5.97.
Very funny. I just thought making gravel plural was pretty lame. I guess you made it work though!
I had WEIGHT-TRAVELOGS
I too pulled the plug on Weight Travelogs, in the interests of just gittin’ ‘er done…
Sorry, that should have said WIGHT Travelogs! Vacation tips for ghost-hunters.
SWIVELS-SHORTAGES – can’t believe I didn’t get SLOWISH to pair with GRAVITATES as Jill did (not too fond of the official “VLOGS” or “TRAVELOG” answers)
Me too. The extra S isn’t needed, but allows for placing the words either way around.
It took me a while but came up with
Warthogs — Swivel maybe a new dance craze?
Same here.
VIEWS – SHARTS – SLOG
. . . in case you wondered if “SHART” clears the hurdle for the NYT.
I would also like to say Wordle left me irritated even though I did solve it on the last word.
But I did enjoy SB’s recent call-out to MR James’ Ghost Stories of an Antiquary – The Mezzotint is terrifying!
WHIT – TRAVELOGS 13/2.
Short stories about quick trips… This is an improvement.
I got: whist travelog. Which is about a trip I took to London in the 18th century to play a game of cards… Long story.
Finds along the way: -LOGIES, -IVE(S), GIVES, GRAVES, WIVES, EARSHOT, SWIVET(S), VIRGATES (no reason to go VARIEGATES), WHOLE(S), SHAWL, HOWLS, LOWISH, EARTH, [EARTHWOLVES], RAVIGOTE, and, of course, OWL.
when I hit VARIEGATES-SLOWISH I called it a day. Never thought of the sleeker virgates.
VLOGS-SWARTHIEST
VIROLOGISTS – SWARTHIEST for me. Once I hit VIROLOGISTS, I was certain it had to be part of a two-word solution, but it took me a long time to work out how. And VLOGS never occurred to me.
Whisht Travelog
WARTHOGS – SWIVEL
Now thats an image SWP
Agh, somehow missed swivel! I ended up with:
TELEVIEW – WARTHOGS
Same
Now thats an image SWP
Gravesites – slowish. Not exactly efficient, but nicely descriptive!
Today’s birds include ORIOLE, OWL, and SHAG.
😀
WORTHIES – SELVAGE here. I’m not surprised to find out that Mr. Ezersky is 23 years old….. At least he’ll keep me current on my vocabulary!
What!?!? Are you sure?
Oops, my bad – he’s 29, according to a post in 2017 that said he was 23. He’s a UVA grad who started working at NYT in 2017. Thanks for catching that!
You’re right – today “whatev” was accepted!
WHORL – LEVIGATES
Spiral method for a pestle & mortar, perhaps..
VARIOLES – SIGHTSAW
Wordle 625 2/6
⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
🙂
travelogs – swish
Weightiest Travelog
WHARVES – STORIOLOGIES (-IST(S))
Wow, so many great solutions. As usual, I wasted tons of time without a two-word-result. Got stuck with a variety of threeers, interconnectable by letter S.
vestiges-slowish-harvest
astrologists-shaves-saw
views-shortages-slow
slowish-harvest-tag
elevates-shirt-towage
elevators-slowish-hog
astrologists-shows-save
graves-slowish-hot
leaves-stowages-shirt
stowage-elevators-shirt
stowages-swirls-shave
thwarts-savages-slowish
gravel-lows-shirt
towels-shortages-strive
ravels-sight-tow
Missed that one!
Quite a few of these words were part of two-word solutions, HLG! It’s, really, a question of fitting round pegs in round holes! (And, since you are not short of creativity, make sure you put them down on paper so as to gain control over what matches what.)
I keep trying … close to addiction, I’m afraid.
HLG:
vestiges (of a) slowish harvest — beautiful.
I do love three-word solutions. More room for imagery and context.
Thanks Jill, I love them, too. Still though, after two hours of guessing, I would have prefered a two word result.
TEG—GLOWS—SHIVA—ART
THO—OGIVE—ELS—SWART
WARTS—SHIV—VEG—GLOW
WIG—GRAVE—ETHS—SLOW
SHIV—VET—TRAWL—LOGS
SHIVA—AWL—LET—TROGS
ETHS—SWIRL—LOG—GAVE
ETH—HOLS—SWIG—GRAVE
I love this one!
Two new words for me:
‘eth’– an Old English letter
‘teg’ — a sheep in its second year
I enjoyed creating it. 🙂 Please note that each quad is symmetric, in this sense:
TEG ↘️
TEG—GLOWS—SHIVA—ART
ART—TEG—GLOWS—SHIVA
SHIVA—ART—TEG—GLOWS
GLOWS—SHIVA—ART—TEG
WORTHIEST-TRAVELOGS
GRAVELS SHOWIEST
TRAVELOGS – SWISH eventually. My preliminary threeby was WEIGHT-TRAVELS-SLOW(ly). Clearly, Slowish would have been more fitting.
VLOGS. . .hmmm. . .
WARTHOGS – SWIVEL
Well i hate vlog as a word ( but also did not find sweatshirt). Thought i had solved quickly with EARTHGLOW but it is not a word (our family uses it frequently (( dad joke about the earthglow lighting up the sun))). And then ran out of my time limit. I was sure there was more and i was right Might try later for something original
WORTHIEST,TRAVELOG
I was surprised that TRAVELOG was allowed
WARTHOGS – SWIVEL
VIROLOGIES*–SWATH
*not accepted by LB, but a playable SCRABBLE word, so I’m calling it a ‘W’ for today.
Weightiest-Travelog
Missed today
Tried varieties and whitewash but without luck
I prefer my solution…
Gravesites – Slowish
