    1. ARGH! I grew up near DC and drove the BELTWAY all the time! How did I miss that, even though I’ve been living in the UK for decades?!

      1. Yes, the beltway surrounding DC. I remember trying to attend two conferences in two days and driving endlessly lost on that road. I forget the two cities involved but I do recall checking into a hotel at 3AM ish, and then up at 7AM to make the conference. 😴

Hi Irim and Mark… Just curious, where near DC? I’m in Falls Church, VA., inside the beltway. Oh, and had BIKEWAYS SMARTLY for today’s answer.

          1. Funny, that’s my corner of the world. Just moved from Winchester, VA (ca. 70mi west of D.C.). Got a kid—grownup now—who lives in Annapolis.
Still, I missed BELTWAY and ended up with BIKEWAYS–SMARTLY.

My grandmother lived in Silver Spring, off Sligo Avenue if I remember. I live off Arlington Blvd. (Rt. 50) in Falls Church.

        1. BIKEWAYS-SMARTLY here. Having also lived in the DC area for a few years during training, it is not surprising that I found a way to avoid the Beltway. 66 is a disaster all the time. The DC equivalent of the Cross Bronx Expressway.

    2. LOL – I had BIKEWAYS first but didn’t see SMARTLY, then had TRAMWAYS and definitely didn’t see SKIBLE although I did try some form of SKIABLE, but fortunately the brain cells came together after a few more sips of coffee and finally paired BELTWAYS with SMIRK. Phew!

    3. Also Tramways -Skible
Tried skible after thinking of skiable and found/learned a new word.

Played with walkways, bikeways, websiteand airways first.
Got close with Bikeways – Smelt (no R).

  1. BIKEWAYS-SMARTLY here, after being thwarted with WAYMARK/WAYMARKER/SKYWRITER/TRAYBAKE, anything ending in ABILITY/ABLY/ABLE and anything with an ER, ES, KY, etc.

BIKEWAYS was the first word I found I could use, and was briefly stymied, as SMELTER was all I could see, then realised aha, SMARTLY!

Kanishk and RF, my lovelies, can’t wait to see you and your solutions.

Good luck, everyone, and happy Monday!

    1. Well done, Irim! TRAMWAYS – SKIBLE immediately here after a brief flirtation with BIKEWAYS. SKIBLE was a complete shot in the dark – I’ve never heard of it before.
The OA is much more elegant – BELTWAY is a new word for me.

Waiting for RF with his solution.

  2. Sri Lankan mom

Beltways – smirk after trying walkway/s, market, brisket, and others.
Heading to MD (Germantown) for my friend’s 70th birthday surprise- not that anyone is likely to read this, since I seem to bring up the rear…

      1. Thanks, that’s nice – I feel like someone who got a message in a bottle!! and my friend is turning 60 not 70 – she’d yell at me if she knew about the typo!!

    1. Ah, hope it was a great evening! Grew up in Silver Spring and had a friend Germantown way, so knew it well back in the day. Happy birthday to your friend and welcome to a whole new decade. May each year bring her more love, joy, and blessings – and high five to a fellow Gen Xer!
