    1. It was indeed. I suspect a singular solution today, but will not be surprised if a clever LBer finds something else.

  1. The OA within one of it encapsulating triples (ETs):

    BETWIXT—TRAPEZIUS—SUB
    SUB—BETWIXT—TRAPEZIUS
    TRAPEZIUS—SUB—BETWIXT

ETs are not unique, and can be larger. For example, SAB and STAB could have also been the linking word. It seems natural to shoot for the minimum length of 3 letters for the linking word, if one exists for that particular word pair.

  2. Got as far as Betwixt and Trapeze (and several others) but nothing clicked. So a triplet: WAISTS-SUBTEXT-TRAPEZE. No TI whatsoever, even the most tortured.

    1. A bit tortured, but still . . .

SUBTEXT of the TRAPEZE ARTIST’S RULES OF SAFETY
With partner sailing through the air
To grab her waist is quite the dare.
      Though not overt
      It’s still a flirt.
So don’t, to keep this fine art fair.

  3. I couldn’t get my head in the game today, but then finally found the OA and realized that my head had been right there all along.

  4. Tortuous to solve, but once I found betwixt, I saw trapeze (which I had worked with for awhile ). Knew then the second word had to be trapeze with a weird suffix. OA here.
