    1. Me too. The first word I found was SQUELCH, but it took a long time before I thought to extend it to SQUELCHER.

    2. TOMBS-SQUELCHER
Reminded me of the end of the 1982 Poltergeist movie.
      “you only moved the headstones!”

  1. A variation on Steph’s:
    RETOMBS – SQUELCH
    And for three-solves:
    COMB – BROTHEL’S – SEQUEL
    CUCUMBER – REQUOTES – SLOTH

  2. TOMBS-SQUELCHER jumped right out. THUMBHOLES-SQUELCHER, a.k.a. spackle, is a longer alternative not accepted by the puzzle but playable in Scrabble.

🐦 BRUBRU, BULBUL, COLETO, COURSER, HUET-HUET, MOTMOT, SCOTER 🐦🐦 COOT, MURRE, MURRELET, ROLLER

  3. Bernie Horowitz

Had a lot of Troubles (😉) with this one. Found Squelch Squelches Squelcher Squelchers immediately but somehow overlooked the Tombs. Distracted by Quorums and Mosques, I did eventually find the OA, and was more than willing to call it a day. It’s not entirely lacking in TI. Cruel British schoolboys (is there another variety?) sending up the New Boy’s spotty complexion…

  4. TOMBS – SQUELCHER here as well after finding CHECQUERS, SOMBRERO, QUESO to no avail. Surprised by the OA – kudos to anyone finding HUMORESQUE!

  5. Tombs – Squelcher — Brings up visions of zombies squelching though the mud of their graves. I Like Humoresque … never saw it.
