The answers are:
BOXCARSSCHMUTZ
😄 BOXCARS-SCHMUTZ after letting go of MATZOHS. Lucky for LB play I grew up in a neighborhood where Yiddish was spoken.
Yah, I was satisfied enough with this solve, but pretty surprised it was the OA.
Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny would be so pleased!
Agree! Love the Boxcar children!
OA
Boxcars-zilch as in nothing
OA here
OA pretty quickly after not finding a partner for MATCHBOX.
I had a hard time letting go of MATCHBOX!
SAME HERE.
I was sure that the solution depended on either MATCHBOX, THUMB(S) OR BOXCAR(S). But I couldn’t figure it out and gave up. Never even considered SCHMUTZ. I’m not convinced that that is a real word. Isn’t it spelled SHMUTZ?
Because Yiddish uses a different alphabet, it is transliterated and the spellings vary.
Same here exactly
I used SHMUTZ, so apparently both spellings are accepted.
OA immediately. As soon as I saw the array, I knew one of the words had to be Yiddish. As for other solutions? Bubkes. But I kvetch.
Yiddish is one of the gateways to a flavorful English.
Bozo outcharms sox —-was all your getting out of me today
I begrudgingly settled for BOXCARS-SHAZAM-MUTCH
I’m Yiddish-impaired.
PS- mutch apparently is an old Scottish word for a nightcap. My brain fritzed and thought “much doesn’t have a T, does it?”
HAZMAT THUMB BOXCARS for me!
OA – and another one-off, methinks, second day in a row. It was indeed hard to throw in the towel on Matchbox and Matzohs.
Couldn’t grok schmutz after boxcars until schmutz popped it out.
Like many others was delighted to find matchbox, but had to give it up. Found OA but had high hopes for something with TI today. Sigh, pretty sure this is a one off. At least I still have some coffee left 🙂
OA two days in a row. I also had trouble moving on from MATCHBOX.
Another victim of matchbox so a trey today.
HAZMATS – SCRUB – BOX
Clean machine.
I used MATZOHS to scrub my boxes
Me too. Also ub boxcar Shazam
Tub boxcar Shazam.
exact same
as THIS 🙂
Got the 13/2 variant BOXCARS – SHMUTZ
OA as welll
OA for me.
Oy vey I missed Schmutz, was stumped until I got Boxcar/s pretty quickly, so I settled for 3w TUB BOXCARS SHAZAM.
BOXCARS / SCHMUTZ
I really wanted RAZMATAZ to work.
I was also one that couldn’t let go of MATCHBOX, so I ended up with
RUMS-SHAZAM-MATCHBOX
Exactly the same here.
Was very happy to discover another Yiddish word to add to my favourites, schmaltz, schlock and schmuk. I did not know BOXCAR, though, and couldn’t link BORAX to SCHMUTZ.
Tried to make Bazars work but not accepted, altho not uncommon. I noticed a similar overlooking of a very common word in today’s Spelling Bee.
Finally got the OA after remembering the movie Boxcar Bertha.
was it biali?
OA. As others have already noted, this is likely the only 2W solution.
TI: after traveling all up and down the tracks you’d expect the train to get a little dirty!
OURS / SHAZAM / MATCHBOX
Bozos scrum matchbox
Just 2 solutions. Like yesterday. No Scrabble words found today.
1 – 14 boxcars / schmutz
2 – 13 boxcars / shmutz
OA, got the hint in a previous game that Yiddish words are common. 🙂
OA for me. I retyped the letters into a line like the above. After playing with RAZOR, I left it. Hours later, remembered I hadn’t solved. It, came back and looked at the line and saw BOX. I went back to the square grid and got the rest, CARS and SHMUTZ. I actually like this relaxed way of playing otherwise it gets pretty intense and frustrating if I keep focusing on it. And that’s no fun.
