The answers are:
FLATIRONNIMBUS
FLOATS SUBURBANISM for me.
But was confused that
MOISTURISATION was disallowed.
Also mucked around with:
MOTORISATION
MUNITIONS
MUTATIONAL
MUTINOUS
TOMBAL
URBANISATION
AUTUMNAL might have been fun too, but I only just spotted in t after.
*spotted it
ALBURNUM – MOTIFS
BUMF—FLATIRONS
I didn’t know ‘bumf’ before.
The Flatirons are in my neck of the woods:
https://www.bouldercoloradousa.com/things-to-do/insider-guides/flatirons/
You could Bumf right into them if you turn around too suddenly!
Official here.
FLATIRONS-SUBMIT
still turning my brain to find something to match OUTBURST(S)
FORUMS – SUBLATION. Inefficient and no TI. Will go back and hunt again if I have time today.
FORUMS – SUBLATION here as well. I don’t have the full list of words I examined to hand, but I can recall ALBUM, TRIBUNALS, ALBINOISM along with our own NUMBAT having made it there.
Our Friend the Numbat!
SUBFORMS – SALTATION
Flatirons-submit
Although flatirons-submunitions also works. I saw submunitions first.
FLOATS SUBURBANISM as well
forums – sublation
FLOATS-SUBMINIATURISATION 24/2 : )
Flatiron numbnuts
Needlessly long but kind of fun.
I had FRITA – ALBUMINOUS
FLATIRON – NUMBNUTS…. Somewhat astonished and abhorred that’s an accepted word but I’ll go with it in honor/memory of my Dad, who was fond of the expression FWIW. Cheers Dad!
This solution restores my faith in the word list.
Ha!
FAB—BRIM—MOLTS—SUN
FAB—BLOT—TRIMS—SUN
FAT—TOMB—BIRLS—SUN
Fun with Quads! ☺
Finding plausible themes with quads has been challenging. It may take a few 15/4s working together before a common theme rings true. All are “adjective—noun—verb—noun” combos, with SUN as anchor.
FLOTATION–NUMBROUS
Honestly surprised that ‘numbrous’ was accepted while other, more common words are often rejected, but it was a fun solve.
For example: ‘FLOTATIONAL’ is not accepted as a word, but try explaining that to the TSA . . .
It’s maddening sometimes when fairly common words are rejected. I wanted to play FLATIRONS—SUBATOM(S) today, but the latter was not accepted. I assume ‘subatomic’ is in their list, but I couldn’t check that anyway.
Super pissed.
Got to tribunals and was adamant to make it work but couldn’t. Someone do it for me please.
I was so made that nothing fit with it!
FORUMS – SUBNATIONAL
I solved with flatirons -submit
FLORIN — NUMBATS 13/2
There’s that damn Numbat again! Can’t get away from it, yet I didn’t even know it existed until a couple of weeks ago… Anyway, official answer here, eventually. I’m just sorry I didn’t think to try Bumf or Numbnuts, both are brilliant.
Flauts suburbanism. Took waaay too long but at least it has some thematic integrity.
Ah shoot. Floats, not flauts. And there goes my thematic integrity…
