Good work, Mark! I struggled with Coquina for quite a long time and never saw Argyle! And Larceny, Garlic, Uniquely, Enquiry, and numerous others all proved to be dead ends.
Like Sota21, I ended up with Ronquil Legacy. They and I seem to be the only commenters with that particular solution, at least so far.

GYRONIC – CALQUE 13/2 WOULD be a nice one if GYRONIC wasn’t inexplicably discarded…
In an attempt to see what LEGACY can be paired with anything, I stumbled upon RONQUIL (which was new on me and, surprisingly, accepted). So RONQUIL – LEGACY 13/2 is a solution, albeit heavily assisted by word databases.
*’if’ (rather than ‘what’) makes more sense.
Same answer here, but from the opposite direction – I stumbled upon Ronquil first, by experimentation; after that, Legacy was the inescapable, well, legacy. I hate it when I have to look up my answer, but then again, good to know the name of another fish.
Tried to make enquiry and/or uniquely work and then was surprised to find Cryogenic/Claque was accepted.
I ended up with a slight variation: CRYOGENIC/CALQUE
I was close. CRYOGENIC – CLAQUE. Someone earlier with this answer suggested it implied a bunch of cold-hearted sycophants. Which I thought was even more interesting than the answer itself.

and missed the shorter, official answer.
