Sides of this Letter Box are:
UCLEOADWNHRT
The answers are:
OUTLAWWRENCHED
WHALER RECOUNTED
similar WHALE-ENCOUNTERED
I like it.
A whaler recounted the whale encountered.
Same here!
Great theme herein.
I thought of Moby Dick: “I seek the White Whale!”
🐳
My thoughts (and solution) exactly.
UNLATCHED – DOWER
Ditto
Same
OUTWORLDER RANCH – Skywalker Ranch’s distant relative. Not elegant, but it works
My solution, too. And, it explains why I’ve never cared for that flavor—it’s actually an extraterrestrial recipe!
Several promising starts, with REDOLENT and REDOLENCE, but couldn’t pair them.
Tower Relaunched
Ditto!
Oh, me too!
Same
This was my solution as well. I resisted the temptation to be enchanted by enchanted.
Same here 🙂
Relaunched Dowt, that time in Aberdeen when I failed to flick my cigarette butt where I intended. Admittedly, had to look up Dowt.
Also Tower Relaunched, which may have something to do with NASA.
I anticipate plenty of creative answers with this array! Go get ‘em, LBers!
Also Unlatched Dower, an open wedding chest.
Yes! UNLATCHED / DOWER for me, too.
I got Unlatched Dower as well. Great image
Slight variation on the OA. OUTLAWED – DRENCH
Same OA variation for me. I would’ve liked to use Cowcatcher, since it doesn’t come a great deal in casual conversation.
Cowcatcher-runholder was accepted.
Runholder? 😮 That wasn’t anywhere near my radar! Well done.
Outlawed Drench, too. No rain allowed…
Started with Wrenched, Drenched, Countenance, Colourate, etc. Made a double with Whaler & Recounted. Not alone it seems. 🙂
Up late in the rectory:
CHURCHWARDEN – NOCTURNAL
Churchwarden Notal
Same. The official name of the person who does the night watch at the cathedral. Along with the sacristan diurnal, they have it covered.
Church warden-notelet
Same
Same. church warden and note let
Love!
Walnut torched
Perfecto!
walnut-torched
WRETCHED DUODENAL. What intestinal ailments are.
I’m looking forward to seeing lots of creative solutions today, as the possibilities do seem abundant.
I saw WALNUT—TORCHED for a 13/2. I don’t remember ever actually roasting a walnut but the bagged toasted ones are a good snack.
My personal favorite, since I love geometry, is the OUTLAWED—DODECAHEDRON.
As one of the five Platonic solids, it stood apart from the other four. The tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron, and hexahedron (cube) were associated with fire, air, water, and earth respectively. The mystical dodecahedron was akin to the heavenly realm.
Largest anagram group found:
{CANTERED, CRENATED, DECANTER, NECTARED, RECANTED}
Happy LB day!
😊
WALNUT-TORCHED is most excellent!
UNLATCHED-DOWER as well — Maggie Smith quips on Downton Abbey come to mind.
Good one!
I tested UNLATCHED—DROW too. “Drow” is a PSW but was unaccepted in LB.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/drow
Tower Relaunched – don’t like it but too lazy to do better. Launch and Tower were looking good but the marriage ain’t so pretty.
unlatched – dower
Any 13/2?
Mark’s WALNUT-TORCHED.
I also tested UNLATCHED—DROW for another 13/2 but “drow” was a no-go.
After failing with OUTWATCHED, NOCTURNAL, COWARD, WORLDED, COWHERD, COLOURANT, COHERENT and others, I finally got
UNLATCHED DOWERED.
Didn’t think to try DOWER but I’m happy nonetheless, especially after being unsuccessful at getting 2s in the last 2 days.
Some really great solves today. My favourite is CHURCHWARDEN NOCTURNAL.
Actually OUTLAWED DODECAHEDRON is also my favourite hehe.
TOWER – RELAUNCHED
Nearly OA… outlawed drenched
“WATERCOLOURED?? DRENCHED!,” said my kindergarten teacher, disapprovingly.
OA here much to my surprise. Knew there would be a variety of answers but kudos to Mark for DODECAHEDRON 🙂
Thanks Susan. 🙂 I must say, for those so inclined, that calculating the volume of a dodecahedron is a good challenge.
In closed form it is (15+7√5)/4
Pythagorean theorem, over and over, …
Wow, Mark. That’s a trip. For the same amount of mental energy though, you could compose a fugue . . . :^)
Thanks KP, I wish I could. I liked your idea the other day with the musical instruments. It’s not my wheelhouse but I could easily put together a list for cross-ref, like the colors, atoms, etc.
It’s funny, but one of my hangups is that I keep missing the musical references. It’s as if that part of my brain turns off when I try to solve a LB puzzle.
Outlawed – Drenched. Whaler – Recounted. I figured there would be numerous combos today!
Whale, encountered
many quick options today:
watercolour – reharden
watercolour – relaunched
outlawed – drench
outwatched – darnel
