Had the same answer right away. Either sprawl – lazybones or the reverse. Then spent all morning trying to figure out additional solutions.

As has been the case of late, I arrive at a 14/2 pretty quick (which I feel I have to submit), & then miss out on a 13/2; and that’s perfectly OK as long as someone else is able to have one of those unearthed (I might be digging a little deeper later on, since I see we’re yet to find one).
I would be very surprised to see a 13/2 today. I would also be surprised to see any solution that did not include Lazybones. The Z needs to be coupled with an A or Y on one side. The za_ words exclude all the _zation _izable words, and what’s left does not look promising. The Y words are also limited by having L and Y on the same side of the box, eliminating zyl and lyz choices, and indeed all _ly.
NYT are not very keen on chemistry -BENZAL was discarded this time- & ROPEWAY failed to get us anywhere.
SPRAWLERS disallowed, and WARPLANES never took off. And, with that, my quest for an alternative to LAZYBONES related answers is aborted -PG’s evaluation appears to be spot on.
