  1. LUCID – DOWNTIMES 14/2 Staying lucid with not much downtime to count on -I’ll be off to work in short order, anyways…

  2. Slimed – downcut

The words they accept vs they don’t, I don’t even understand…

    But 13/2 so I won’t complain lol

      1. It’s the downcut that gets me. Not that it’s necessarily bad, but the fact that they take a compound word like that but not some of the others I’ve tried previously. I liked today’s, not particularly taxing but so many different options.

        1. Grammar rules around hyphenation are, indeed, a bit nebulous and not always easy to follow in daily practice. But, like you yourself intimated, we’ll take it and run with it!

        2. I seem to recall having had DOWNCUT(S) approved in an older puzzle, not necessarily having been able to fit it into a viable solution.

  3. I got LUMINESCED – DOWT, which I would instruct my students to rewrite more simply as “relit cigarette butt.”

Curiously, the game accepted MINISCULE – ENDOWMENT. I don’t approve of the misspelling of “minuscule,” but it does flag a common problem in higher education.

    1. Apparently it is so often misspelled that some dictionaries have fully embraced and legitimized the alternative spelling, just like with grey and gray.

So if you’re wrong long enough and often enough, the universe will eventually give up and make you right 👍

    1. I swear I tried downcuts and it didn’t accept it, I may have poked an extra letter though, as I sometimes do without noticing. Slimed – downcut worked though, so I didn’t bother checking again.

      1. Never mind, I got some word dyslexia there when reading, cutdowns =/= downcuts, so now I’m unsure if I poked the extra letter or not… I’ll assume not for now.

    2. Crazy I came up with Selenium then worked back and found cutdowns so, CUTDOWNS SELENIUM, slime would have been easier 😉
