      1. I also thought I had it with Breakfast, but failed bc I didn’t add the S. When I finally let go, I found the OA. Such a workout sometimes!

        1. Me too.

While solving I like to come up with words-that-should-be. Today I found FAIRYBUCKETS that not only used all letters but invoked, at least to me, a happy little image.

    1. Got BREAKFAST(S), did not see SECURITY! Came up with BUYBACK – KITESURF* (to kitesurf is to surf or foil with kites – yet another valid term not recognized by LB!)

      1. When I first started getting on here, I thought Davel worked for the puzzle’s creators, since he would always post an exhaustive list of solves at the end of the day. I would always check to see if he included mine (and I believe all but once he did!)

        1. He had a pretty cool setup, different from mine. He pulled the words from the HTML on the NYT site, and then matched them up for 2-word solutions. Later he managed to include Scrabble non-LB words. When I started to lean on the OED resource, he had asked me for that list, but I did not have it. I’m looking into APIs to see if I can get on top of that. Right now it’s just one word at a time for me. Great fun when one finds an OED word that was LB-rejected! It’s kind of like beating the game.
          😊👍

          1. Haha. When I first got on the site, and Davel would post 100’s of solutions some days , I thought he was some kind of savant. Later I pictured him as AI, lastly as a smart regular person who just tired of posting so many solves

          2. Once I realized that the OA and “valid LB” words were hard-coded, it made sense that there were discrepancies between “just the OED” and what LB accepted. It also accounts for the speed (I.e. no API to access). I would like to know the upstream process that goes into populating the HTML with any given day’s word list, but I doubt that they will ever give that up.

  1. BACKFISTS – SURETY
I’ve been lurking here for a year – this is the first time I ever got an original!

  2. Didn’t get a solution, only two unappetising solves that didn’t join up.
    Fruity crabcakes and freaky biscuits.

  3. No luck on this one. I looked at lots of possibilities and was excited when I found BREAKFAST, but could not find a pair for it. I should have thought of SECURITY, so that was dumb.
