MARKETINGGLOB
Official
I ended up with the official solution, even though I was tempted to go GLOBE for thematic integrity purposes (as BERNIE HOROWITZ indicates). I went through BROMATE, along with a bunch of -INGs; BOATING, LEAKING, MAKING, and MARKING (which eventually led to MARKETING), and I was also sidetracked on to anagrams territory (as I love to occasionally do) with BLOATING and OBLIGANT.
Hah – I got “tinkering – gambol”
Compared to the tightly knit efforts of its competitors, the Marketing skills of company xyz looked like a Glob.
Oscar the 1st here. Well will try and change my name it looks like; trying Oscarpdx but awaiting administrative approval. So hopefully soon. Anyway AKIMBO my favorite today but could not find match feel, like such a grom
FYI, Oscar, you can also create an avatar (or pic) at http://www.gravatar.com. This site uses that free web service. Just another option.
Thanks mark will try if i get stuck making change
MARKETING – GLOBE, because I never even considered that GLOB might be a word.
Too tired to keep looking, so settled for the first thing that came up: the thematically deficient Blanketing Grom. Grom was a new one on me, which is a plus, but it’s hard to imagine ever using it again in either definition. I never have occasion to talk about young surfers, much less forked sticks for carrying bundles of thatch(!).
The official answer ain’t bad, but begs the question, Glob of what? Marketing Globe might be more satisfying theme-wise, albeit at the cost of an extra E.
This looks like a promising array. I look forward to seeing folks’ solutions!
Went with Blanketing Glamor. Was hoping Gorm might be accepted, never considered Grom! Always satisfying to learn a new word.
BLANKETING – GROM as well. Grom was a Hail Mary after Gorm wasn’t accepted. Interesting to discover a new word–although I’ll probably never use it again, ever.
BLANKETING–GROM here, too. And yes, ‘GROM’ was a shot in the dark.
I’m sure there are others (given the availability –ING and –TION), but I must get back to work.
‘RELATIONING’ looks promising . . . can anyone pair it for a ‘tag-team’ win?
You could e.g. marry it up with BOILERMAKER, which others have made use of in slightly more efficient ways -and I was unable to detect any brilliant theme behind that pairing, either, so -yeah…
Marketing Glob, no problem we’ll just change the name.
Too funny!
… and
BLANKETING GRIMOIRE
MARKING –GOBLET
There you go; well played, Martin -it can, sometimes, be essential to know who uses which!
Same
BOILERMAKER—RANTING
🍺🥃🥴
..which may lead to:
BOILERMAKER—RATIONING
😀
This was a wonderful opportunity for self-promotion, so I had to go with
MARKETING – GOBLIN
Awesome!
You’ve absolutely gone goblin mode, Goblin; talk about nominative determinism! 😉
MARKETING-GLOBE with Davos in the news
Marketing Globe
MOLTER – REBREAKING
💋👑🍷
MINTING GAOLBREAK
Confident that there must be a 13/2 in this array, I eventually got the official, but via MAKER – REBOLTING,
BOILERMAKER – RATING, and
TANKERING – GAMBOL. (Hat’s off to Goblin for the winning solution!)
Martin’s got 13/2 with Marking-Goblet
MARKETING GLOBE – Funny, I had thought of GLOB earlier, but forgot it when I found MARKETING. Had hopes for BLANKETING but GORM was not a word.
But GROM is, FWIW. In any case, I would have to say MARKING GOBLET takes the gold today.
For some reason retalking-bomber was accepted. Didn’t even get to make the coffee.
Started with BREAMING which I then had to look up, but then found
MARKETING – GLOBAL. Went right be GLOB and GLOBE….
Molter and Rebreaking
Same here
I did it again didn’t like my answers Blanketing and Glamor
limbering – goatlike
Me stretching 🙆♀️ 🐐
lol
That one’s a bit of a stretch, no?
Quite the stretch; I see what you did there, Bernie!
BLANKETING-GROM (admittedly, I hit enter, was surprised it took it, and then looked up GROM: a young surfer, snowboarder, wakeboarder…). 👩🍼🏄🏼♀️🏂
Happy Monday, LB’s!
MARKER,REBOLTING
Was surprised that this came to me so quickly
OK so I’m bored did it a third time marketing and glob
Marketing Glob (after fiddling with Blanketing, Gamboling and others)
BOMBER RETALKING in about 15sec
I got that too. Surprised that retalking was accepted.
TREKING – GAMBOLING didn’t work, so found MARKETING – GAMBOL, then GLOBE, GLOB
BOATLIKE – ENGRAM
Trying to change user name to avoid confusion with second Oscar : got TIEBREAK TIEBREAKER but would not accept TIEBREAKING?!? GLOM.
Had a little time to come back to this. For the Deadheads in the crowd: BEATNIK – KILOGRAM.
Wicked, DW! I do, in fact, wonder whether DEADHEAD would be a word by the game’s standards -guess we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for it. 😉
(horribly inefficient as it is)…
Perfect!
DEADHEAD is a playable Scrabble word, so I should certainly hope so! But the accepted meaning would not be “a devotee of the Grateful Dead,” I expect, but rather “someone who travels without freight.”
Correcto-mundo! I looked it up in an online dictionary & and there would hardly be any excuse for it not being included:
noun
1.DEROGATORY•INFORMAL
a boring or unenterprising person.
2.INFORMAL
a fan of the rock group the Grateful Dead.
verb
1.remove dead flower heads from (a plant).
2.INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN
(of a commercial driver) complete a trip in a train or other vehicle with no passengers or cargo.
But you can never be sure with this word list, can you?
Sadly, you are correct. Nothing can be presumed!
I should add that probably the most common use of DEADHEAD these days is in the airline industry, where it refers to employees (mostly pilots) hitching a free ride for repositioning purposes.
Handy info there, DW! I was ignorant of all of those verb meanings and can now hit the pillow feeling a tiny bit wiser!
TEAMAKER – REBOILING
Not great, but the theme works.
Original & coherent, Jill, and done in the nick of time, it appears!
