  1. Some of the above popped up rather quickly, so I went looking for solutions that did not include the obviously tempting string, *IZE(S) . The only one I have come up with so far is HORIZONS -SALESWOMAN. I would be curious to see if anyone finds others.

    1. You’re an expert in creating challenges within the challenges, DW. Hopefully, I’ll make time to take that on as the day progresses, and maybe look for a -still elusive- 13/2, too.

  2. Well yesterday JAPAN accepted today WELSH HARMONIZES. not sure what circumstances Welsh not capitalized other than derogatorially (is that a word?)

  3. NORMALIZES – SHOW. I looked at Womanizes first as well and pined for a C to make Scholar. This solution is at least more efficient.

  4. Well let’s see if my gravatar shows up Posted this as oscar pdx but still waiting for moderation (4days in) so thought i would go picture route (thanks dw) Hello again everyone. Well yesterday JAPAN accepted today WELSH HARMONIZES. not sure what circumstances Welsh not capitalized other than derogatorially (is that a word?)

    1. Excellent Gravatar avatar, Oscar! As for Japan, or rather “japan”, see the glossy black varnish or lacquer as noun, and applying it as verb – japanned, japanning.

    2. I agree with Bernie! Excellent avatar. And it solves any potential confusion problem.

The non-proper-noun WELSH is a variation of WELCH, a derogatory synonym for the verb “to renege.” As it happens, WELCH is also my surname. You can imagine the grief I endured as a kid!

  5. Going with Welsh Harmonize, because they certainly do! I’m not going to argue about capitalization (but see, eg, welsh pony, uncapitalized) or derogatory meanings (except to note that etymologists have apparently found no support for the verb being a derogatory derivation from Welsh).
Also Harmonizes Slow/Slew. A Slew of Welsh Harmonizers took it nice and Slow…

    1. See my reply to Oscar, above. “Welch” is a Saxon word meaning “foreigner,” which means that my ancestors were unwelcome. I guess that’s why they emigrated to North America.

      1. Kids, savages that they are, will always find something to mock, especially if you rise to the bait. If your name was John Smith, they’d be calling you “A Likely Story” or “Pseudonym”, or maybe “Mr. Pocahantas”. The only defense is paying it back with even crueler takes on their own names.

  6. HARMONIZES and SWOLE. I was stunned that the second word was accepted, but I guess slang and jargon do finally crack the canon of accepted vocabulary.

  7. Here are some different ones: HORSEWOMEN—NASALIZE, or for even less efficiency, HORSEWOMEN—NOMINALIZE.
Egads, there wasn’t a hard consonant in the whole bunch! It was like trying to carry on a conversation with a drunk!
