Nice work, RF! Yes, it is – the origin is from the Yiddish ‘klots’ meaning wooden block (easy segue to clumsy person), and earlier from German ‘klos’ meaning ‘lump, block’, again, a clear association. xx
Saw -WORK immediately, looked up ‘TAXWORK’ to see if it was a word, and it suggested me WAXWORK – I really don’t know if I should count this as a valid solve, even though I think I would’ve gotten WAXWORK – it’s not obscure. KLUTZES I instantly spotted after that.

I’d count it for sure, because looking it up to see if it was a legitimate word is absolutely fair, I think. If it goes, ‘Hmmm, no, did you mean ???’ and you try it, that’s totally fair.
It’s a solve, you accepted the suggestion – you could have gone, ‘nah, I’ll choose something else’. I think this is about learning vocabulary & how we solve things, not purity. Some folks will use word banks, etc.
BTW, after I got it, I checked out Alice’s solver – looks like a singular solve. No surprise with X, K, Z, and W, I guess!

It’s definitely a solve…you will find WAXWORK eventually like me. You only have to change one letter just like I did. First I tried TAXWORK. Changed T to S to SAXWORK. Changed S to W to WAXWORK and surprisingly it was accepted.
I thought it was a singular solution as well! Very few options today with X and Z in the same puzzle.

Haha, well done, Irim – that happens a LOT with me. My go-to starting word is STARE, and many times I type it in too quick and accidentally enter STARR (which is a valid input? I have no idea what that means). I got it in four today.

Yes, on the spelling when I type too fast & I’d have assumed starr was invalid as it’s a proper name. Its original use, ‘starr’ (meaning ‘star’) is archaic at best and probably obsolete.

Saw WAXWORKS and WATERWORKS almost immediately, and KLUTZES pretty quickly too, but took a couple of minutes to come back and check if WAXWORK was a legit word without the “S” to get the OA.
