  1. PEARS-SCHMALTZY here very quickly, after toying with HYPERMART and CATALYZERS. Then I thought, wait. All the letters are here for a *Yiddish* word. Found SCHMALTZY and PEARS was right there. Just under 5 minutes.

RF and Kanishk, lovelies, hope to see you soonest!

Good luck, everyone, and happy Friday – have a great weekend!

    1. Radioactive Flower

Here I come with almost the same thing: REPS – SCHMALTZY.

Well done Miss Irim. Let’s wait what Kanishk-boy will bring to the LB potluck. 🥳

        1. Double solve today! Took me a long time to find Schmaltz. Already had Paralyzes and Zephyr(s). So the OA, and Paralyzes-Schmaltz.

    2. Amazing job, Irim – well done! I got the OA backwards, and like Samuel, don’t know why Sam decided to put ZEPHYR first when obviously, SCHMALTZ – ZEPHYR gets rid of the extra S.

Instant solve today – if this puzzle had come up an year ago, fifteen year old me wouldn’t have been able to solve it, because today’s grid has 150 valid solutions in total (according to word.tips/letterboxed-todays-hints-answers/) and ALL of them requiring the use of the word SCHMAL(T)Z(Y).

Thankfully, this word has appeared in an OA long back (and has been engraved in my mind since).

A bit disappointed that YAHRZEIT, a word I recently learned, was impossible, but nevertheless glad I got to use ZEPHYR (one of my favourite words)

Glad to see you, Irim – how is Hindi prep going? And RF, can’t wait to see you here with us. Happy Friday!

      1. Congratulations, both, and RF, well done on the 13/2! The triumvirate triumphs yet again!

And Kanishk, because I already had my solution, I didn’t pay too much attention to the OA – but you’re absolutely right, not only is yours more efficient, it has the joy of a word ending in Z and one beginning with Z!

Oooh, will check Alice Liang as well, but yes, I did think SCHMALTZ(Y) would be the anchor.

As for Hindi, really good – I’ve finished the course and so am caught on a repeat loop of reviews, but I find myself putting in answers we would say rather than write & getting marked wrong. Need to get word order correct; it seems much more relaxed in speech!

Have you gotten your midterm results yet?!

        1. Glad to know, Irim – let me know if you encounter any doubts, I’m always here to help!

Our midterms have just started, and will continue uptil mid-October. Our physics exam is coming up on Monday, so I better start preparing!

Congrats to us three, for a triumphant triumvirate. And to all those who got a solution as well!

      2. I love YAHRZEIT. E.g., my father’s second yahrzeit was on 18 September.

Also, Sukkot sameach to my Jewish peops here and around the world!

  3. My first guess was MEZCALS with SPERMAPHYTE but the latter was not accepted despite being in the OED and MW.

Ended up with PYRES SCHMALTZ and SCHMALTZES SPERMARY
