  1. I dislike the implication because I have respect for the Puritan tradition and much of what emerged from it (and thoroughly dislike the widespread Christianity-bashing now common), but WHOMP PURITANS is a perfect 13/2.

  2. UPTHROWS – SANTIM
    I now know that a Santim is a Latvian unit of currency.
    I think there may be a lot more possible answers than for the last few days.

  3. OA, which has pretty good TI but loses points for inefficiency. Whomp Puritans is genius on both scores! Good one, Hy!

  4. HOTSPUR RAINWORM.

    Only heard HOTSPUR as part of Tottenham Hotspur and I didn’t know if it was a ‘real word’. Then I just guessed RAINWORM and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a word.

  5. I was mad for a while that it wouldn’t take throwup.

    I finally got it in 2 with WHIPSAWS – SURMOUNT, but I guess extra H’s are better than extra S’s.

  6. Funny (to me), because I toyed with WASHOUT and SHOPWORN at different times. Can’t really understand why I never saw MOUNTAINS, let alone MOUTHWASH.

    Anyway
    WARMOUTH* – HAIRPINS
    UTOPIANS – SHIPWORM

    * PSW, but not LB-approved

    Shout out to all the PROUSTIANS* out there!
