    1. Slight variation with ACQUISITIONS – SPORK. Although I’d rather acquire a spark than a multi-useless plastic utensil. . .

    1. I had that too, though I was surprised that the second word was allowed as the only definition I can find is a rather offensive slang term (though it was certainly in common usage in my distant school days) – I thought it might have been retired by now.

  1. Captions Squark 14/2
I guess I stopped insisting that c and k had to go together and just started playing around and it came fairly quickly. A bit disappointed none of the larger words I was coming up with worked.

    1. In the absence of any obvious thematic consistency to my solution above, I’ve attempted my own quatrain:

I tried my best but made no gains
Until I found the word QUATRAINS
The solution was, it seemed, STOPCOCKed
The joys of playing Letter Boxed! 🙂

  2. Official answer here, and immediately, which as others have said is a relief after yesterday’s time-destroying struggles. Not very efficient letter-wise, but a nicely thematic if chilling call to action as the only-too-palpable shift to Fall overtakes us in New England. Good to see so many inventive alternatives proffered already – looking forward to more!

    1. Amazing how much time I can spend on these, and then today, I’m done before even getting through a third of my coffee. Does make for a great way to start the day though!!!

  3. INQUISITOR – RATPACK. I guess that’s what they used to provision the men who traveled about looking for witches to burn. Or perhaps a redundant term for the British paparazzi. Maybe those are the same thing, really.
