First I tried:

but of course LB rejected gauzey because it’s misspelled. Needing to move the “E” to the first word is what eventually clued me in to PREACHING.
Exactly how I got there too! Flew right by PERCHING cause I was so excited by a quick solve with PREACHING. Always puts a snap in my step when I solve only a few sips into the coffee – off to SB 🙂
BTW – A friend of mine clued me into SEMANTLE – a game where you try to guess a word based on how close your guess is to the answer. Kind of frustrating, but also addictive.
This is what I ended up with as well. Although I was a little disappointed that they did not accept hypercharging. ZHUZH-HYPERCHARGING seems like it was going to be a good solution until the app said no no try again.

OA. The challenge was to find a Z word where z could not be used alongside i or a.
Gauze was handy because it allowed for an -ing ending. That left perch… and replace the e in gauze with the y.
Another PREACHING – GAUZY. Like MVUA, I envision a sermon full of wispy thoughts of goodness.
Don’t think I’d heard of GAUZY until now. I knew GAUZE but didn’t spot it.
My 3 word solution: EYING GRAPHIC CUZ.

GAUZY just seems like the kind of word one of us would come up with in working out a solution, but hardly the kind of word one would build a puzzle around. But, I suppose if the puzzle maker’s goal is really just to present a box that can be filled in at or under ‘par’ (5 or 6 words) then the approach would/could be different.
It,s one of those days where there appears to be a single second word joining PERCHING and PREACHING. The A and I on the same side as Z is extremely limiting, so perhaps it was done on purpose. I got CUZ, PREZ, and GAUZE in addition to GAUZY, and that’s it.

Got to OA eventually. GAUZE was one of the first words I played around with (and eventually PANZER), but took forever to swing around and try GAUZY. 🤷♂️
That was gruelling… the only Z word I could come up with was Panzer with no match. Can’t believe I didn’t see gauze or gauzy.
