  1. Official, right out of the gate -greatly appreciated gearing up for a relatively busy Sunday (a 23h one, at that) -and so close to a one-word solution, too!
    A deplorable 5/12 letters correctly guessed for a 7 at LBF (I’ll soon be coming up with some new combinations). I am giving
    RZU AIX VEN JOQ
    a whirl for tomorrow.

  2. Bernie Horowitz

    I realized this morning I was so busy yesterday I forgot about the puzzle altogether. Sad! But then I found the official today in just a couple of minutes (after a brief dalliance with Gravid). Glad! But oh, that leftover W, spoiling the perfect 12/1…. Sad again!

    1. Yes, that was me, too. Maybe a little more TI than GEOGRAPHY–YEW?

      This one was fun. I wonder how many other solutions there are, though.

  3. Official today after a few days of misses.
    Tried geography first the decided to work with problem letters V and W and immediately got it.
    That’s been my approach for LB just identifying “problem letters” and first try a small if not a big word with those letters in them then trying words with those letters separately.

  4. OPR—IYG—VHE—DWA

    Pair:
    =========================
    VIDEOGRAPHY—YEW
    =========================
    Videography has 11 of the 12 letters, it’s just missing the W.

    Triple: 15/3
    =========================
    RIVAGE—EPHOD—DEWY
    =========================

    Quad: (minimal at 15/4)
    =========================
    DOW—WHIP—PEG—GRAVY
    =========================

    Quatrains: AG
    =========================
    HYDRA—AVOW—WIPER—RAG
    HOYA—AVOW—WIPED—DRAG
    VAPID—DOWRY—YEAH—HAG
    PAVID—DHOW—WEARY—YAG

    HYPHA—AVOW—WIDER—RAG
    VOW—WHIP—PAYED—DRAG
    PAVID—DOWRY—YEAH—HAG
    WHO—OVOID—DRAPEY—YAG
    =========================

    Some words: DIODE, DIVIDE, GRAPH, HYDRIDE, IODIDE, OVOID.

    Observation: HYDRA is a word today, and it was in a symmetric quad yesterday.

      1. Hey KP. Yes, I’m intrigued by the symmetry of the Quads, the building blocks of larger structures!

        It seems to be the sweet spot; the Quints are too unwieldy for me, and the Triples usually don’t pack enough punch thematically.

        I still look for the geometry in the box, as you observed earlier, but it’s seems rare, except for smaller words.

        1. Lately, I’ve taken to viewing symmetrical constructions. Even when they don’t pan out and spell something (not to be reasonably expected), the results take me out of my more well-worn habits of letter combinations. Sometimes I ‘see things.’ (don’t tell my doctor!)

  5. Official, which I was thankful to find after getting stuck with a leftover “A” for the scandalous DOGWHIP – PERVY. 😱

    1. Dogwhip! Wow just had to take on the challenge. It pairs with periovary which is an acceptable word in iscrabble. So I think it counts! Not accepted in LB.🙂
