    1. I like your name:

      “The name Cliona is girl’s name of Irish origin meaning “shapely”. Attached in Irish mythology to a Cliona who was, among other things, an inspirer of poets. Cliona is well-used in modern Ireland, along with Irish form Cliodhna, though it’s largely unknown in the rest of the world.”

      🙂

      1. Aw thank you Mark! It’s not one of the most commonly known Irish names and it often mispronounced to rhyme with Fiona – it actually is closer to Cleen-ah.

  1. Official here, too. QUOTATION(S) being a non-starter, FIXATIONS was the very next try. I figure there’s not going to be a wide range of options with this one.
    A new LBF personal of 18 achieved -now switching to
    YNC BDK OPT RUA.

    1. What does LBF stand for? I’m guessing ‘Letter Boxed something’. Also what do you mean ‘now switching to
      YNC BDK OPT RUA?’ Did you just pick those letters randomly and you are now switching from solving the official puzzle to your made up one?

      Thanks.

      1. It stands for Letter-Boxed Forecast -a challenge I made up for myself, basically, but anyone interested can join in. Details on that can be found on the February 24, 25, & 26 boards.

  2. Bernie Horowitz

    Not much of a challenge today. Official A came instantly, Squawk jumping right out. (Reading that last bit over again, it sounds like coded instructions to co-conspirators.)
    Let the LB whining begin! “Too hard!” “Too easy!” Sigh.

    1. Same. Saw squawk and that was it. I would whine but it’s a busy day so for the best. I predict a one word solution soon.

  3. Official very quickly. Even before my eyes were fully open.
    I agree that aren’t a lot of permutations and combinations on this one

    1. Yep, I agree. With an ‘X’ and no E, there aren’t so many options. Also the ‘QU’ pair must be followed by another vowel, which left only ‘O’ and ‘A’ to work with. No whining here, though. I managed it quickly and was fairly certain it was the official, too.

  4. Pair:
    FIXATIONS—SQUAWK(S)

    Quatrain (of sorts):
    =====================
    FINKS—SQUAT—TWOS—SAX
    FINK—KNOWS—SQUAT—TAX
    FINKS—SQUAT—TOW—WAX
    SQUAWK—KAIF—FONT—TAX
    =====================

    Math/Phys/Chem (mostly, and some can be pluralized):
    ANION, ANTITOXIN, AUTOTOXIN, AXION, AXON, FUSION, ION, QUANTA

    1. Nice quatrain!
      And another new word: kaif
      Urban dictionary says this:
      A person who is always there for everyone and the most loyal of people. But people take advantage of them and never really appreciate who they have.

      1. Thanks Jill. When there’s only a few Pair possibilities, the Quads are often still plentiful, so the quatrain challenge is a good one. I’ve been reading up on the different patterns, ABAB, AABB, and larger poetry structures in general.

  5. One of my fastest solves ever. Looks like a four-hit wonder to me:

    FIXATIONS – SQUAWK(S)
    INFIXATIONS – SQUAWK(S)

    Today’s birds: ANI, SWAN, TIT, KAKA

  6. Oh man. Everyone’s saying how easy it was but I couldn’t get it. Spent less time on it than normal though coz I was mentally tired. About 15 minutes in total. Ended up with FAT TOXINS SQUAWK. Disappointed in myself now coz I probably could have found FIXATIONS eventually if I came back to it later, more refreshed. Noticed FIX but didn’t think to add the suffix on.
