Seeing the answer, I regret giving up. I was almost there. Got FLANKS. Got SCRATCH separately. I dismiss SCRATCH because STARCH is more efficient. Ugh..

    1. Ditto. FLANKS almost immediately. Had to be compound words, dah. Landed with CATFLAP and PARKLANDS minus the H so added STASH….oh well, tomorrow’s another fun Letter Boxd day…

    2. FLANKS and SCRATCH …. leaving out the P and D. Just now while driving, the PAD hit me. I had to pull over and try it!

      FLANKS and SCRATCHPAD!
      A good day!

  2. a single vowel – now this one was a challenge! I got OA after a good 70-80 minutes of scrutinizing and trying out a variety of compound words – FLATLANDS, PARKLANDS, FLATCAPS – and loan words (e.g. LAKH). Finally solved it after leaving SCRATCH on the screen for a while. I would’ve tried this til the last second – no way am I giving up on this once in a blue moon occurence

  3. OA which surprised me as I thought that there would be many solutions, given how many compound words I was seeing. I was working off of PARKLANDS and assumed that the second word had to have some form of CATCH in it. Then I realized that some form of SCRATCH might work, and from there, quickly landed on the answer. Took about 10-15 minutes.

  4. FLANKS – SCRATCHPAD
    Sidelines.

That was fun. One vowel meant compound words. But the other limiter with a one-vowel puzzle was that the F and H could not be preceded or followed by the only vowel. So they were my targets.

Yes, very disappointing, the dearth of yachts.
I eventually figured out I was never gonna find anything better than the OA, or even as good. Weird array today, with the single vowel. I don’t remember ever seeing that before. Does anyone else?

    1. Yeah took me awhile too.
Splashpad, and Fractal were among my potentially promising options which included most of the ones you listed. Still took less time than finding subservient yesterday.

  5. Well i note Steph and i first out gate with solve but due to time change had to post 3/13. But it was kind if nice to not be sure if that was the right OA. Also nice start to my bday And happy pi day to everyone

  6. Nope. This time-limiting approach doesn’t work for me: I need the incubation period. Guess I’ll go back to dipping into LB throughout the day.

  7. Here is the full list. No Scrabble words today.

** Don’t look at the list if you haven’t finished solving the puzzle **

(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)

    1 – 16 flanks / scratchpad
    2 – 17 flanks / scratchpads

  8. Just when I was beginning to think I was no good at this game I got OA in five minutes today! Oh well, I guess there’s a lot of luck in what you happen to spot.

    Happy pie day, everyone!

  9. OA, finally. Spent about an hour on it in the afternoon and then got busy, came back to it about 15 minutes ago primed to give up, but eked it out.

I really liked this one, the single vowel was a fun novelty and provided some deduction to go off of (like THIS said above, the limited placement of F and H was helpful), and the solution, while singular, felt obtainable.

I had thought SCRATCH felt promising in the afternoon, but was waylaid by FLATLANDS/PARKLANDS like others, and didn’t think to add on PAD until I stared at it some more this evening. Credit where credit’s due, Ezersky came up with a good challenge for this one! πŸ™‡β€β™‚οΈ
