      1. Deliverance-ephemeral. Unlike yesterday I solved in a reasonable amount of time. However, now I am going to have those movies in my head all day. Ugh.

    1. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
      – Tony Baretta
Or as I tell my kids:
If you’re gonna do something wrong,
Just don’t do it for long.
(Just kidding. I don’t say that. I just mumble “good job” or something else noncommittal.)

  1. Too hard a nut to crack for me as a German, ended up with 4 words. Mr. Ezersky, how about picking words that are -say- a tad more common?

    1. I agree with the sentiment. Especially annoying when the uncommon word is the only solution. However, this is not a NYT sponsored website so if your complaint is serious you might want to find another site.

That said, if you play often enough, I think the regulars on this board would agree the good days far outweigh the bad. (I consult the dictionary after expending too much time.)🙂

Also, most days there are a lot of creative, intelligent, fun, and insightful participants on this board.

    2. I am USA born-and-bred, and have been challenged this last week without the delight I usually find (as described by TK).

My best, a disappointing threebie again: MEDIVAC-CALIPH-HANDED.
Let’s hope things swing back shortly.

      1. Thanks a lot, Steph and TK! Happy not to be alone with my thoughts. I’ll keep trying, although I’m doing this sometimes only for the sake of training my vocabulary.

  2. DELIVERANCE EPHEMERAL. Got it right away; very first word I saw was NAIVE then Deliver then added -ance to it and got Ephemeral left over. Fastest solving yet! But yesterday I missed Rhyming, which I really should have got.

  3. Worked with VARIANCE for a while, and then my inner Captain Obvious tapped me on the shoulder. Somewhat surprised that it’s the official.

Also wasted some minutes on PHILANDERED.

  4. Nope, missed the official (as well as the DELIVERANCE variant). I’m, however, claiming victory (as DW suggested the other day) with a perfectly valid (scrabble-approved) & thematically integral answer in:
    PHILANDERED – DECEMVIR.

  5. DELIVERANCE – EPHEMERAL. Not fast, but I’ll take the win for the day. Oddly, I found DELIVERANCE early, but gave up and moved on to MEDIVAC, CELERIAC, PHILANDER and even ALEPH before finally circling back a third time. I don’t mind the challenges and some days I can see them easier than others, but I like to tell myself that it’s all good for the brain cells!

  6. Bernie Horowitz

Official, but only after far more labor than usual. Not worth the candle, really. Oh well, they can’t ALL be winners.

    1. Bernie Horowitz

Did manage to find a few good ones along the way: Cavalcade, Clerical, Clearheaded (but not Cleanhanded!), Pelican, Calved, Halved, Halvah, Preprandial, Premedical, Vehicle, Valiance.

OTOH, solved Wordle in two today. But OTOOH (on the other other hand), that’s more luck than anything, and feels somehow fraudulent. There’s always a fly in the ointment…

  7. Official answer here. I had dropped the puzzle after slogging away. Came back some hours later and found it quickly. Rather grateful for that….

    Must look up DECEMVIR.
