  1. BRIMFUL—LATHED 13/2

    FLIRTER°—RHUMBAED
    Dirty dancing?

    AFTERBIRTH—HALTERIDIUM°

    °OED:
flirter, n. A person who flirts (in various senses of flirt, v.); esp. a person who (habitually) behaves in a flirtatious manner or who flirts with a lot of…

halteridium, n. A name for the gametocytes of the protozoan genus Hæmoproteus, which is parasitic in birds, used when the gametocytes were erroneously considered to…

    1. Oh Jezus, Mary and Joseph! Couldn’t pair AFTERBIRTH or AFTERMATH, would never have found HALTERIDIUM! Played inconsolably with REHABILITATED, DEATHBED, BEREFT, HUMILIATED, bla bla bla

          1. Bernie Horowitz

Brimful Lathed here too. 13/2, but no TI that I can see – maybe MVUA can spot it!
Alternately, Brimful Lathered, rinsed and repeated, to the delight of the shampoo manufacturer.

Also found the OA, Humiliated Debrief (the team meeting after a shellacking), plus Hateful Limbered (all warmed up for a Trump rally) and the more efficient but less thematically integrated Hatful Limbered.

        1. Also think there may be pairings with… aftermath, (something with “fruit” in it, breadfruit was close), breathed (left “film,u”), birthed/rebirthed (left “maful”, feathered (left an opening with something “multi”… dimbulb almost worked 😂

      1. My bete noire was FEATHERBED, which for a split second I thought could pair with DELIRIUM. Alas, the second word is not viable.

Came up with BRIMFUL-LATHED soon after. Still, I’m glad someone found a way to work with the -IUM suffix.

    2. FAULTIER – RHUMBAED with another jaw-dropping, “wow – that’s a word?” Can’t really find a dictionary with it, but I’m assuming it’s past tense for rhumba, which is what made me try it, but still a surprise. Another one for the list 🙂

      1. Radioactive Flower

        Hey, Sir LWMMM,

I bet you look handsome in it! ❤️

        TRADITIONAL, indeed! Kudos! 💜

        Hey, Sir BILL DUFFIN,

        99% correct! 😅

        You forgot the Y. 😅

        PLETHORA – ALTERNATIVELY.

          1. Same for me, although it was an embarrassingly long time after having seen both HATEFUL and LUMBERED. But not nearly as long as the struggle to get to PIRANHA-ADJUDICATION which I finally did this morning after battling with the puzzle for quite some time yesterday.

    1. I finally got HATFUL-LIMBERED (14/2) too. Before that the closest I got were:
      FLAMBÉ-ERUDITE (missing H)
      FLIRT-THUMBED (missing A)
THUMBED with either FLAIR or FAILURE (unpaired)
But there are a lot of words in the comments that I ever saw at all!

  2. Am I the first person here to get the OA today? It came pretty quickly—the only other solution I tried wasn’t accepted since LB apparently doesn’t like DEFLATER for some reason.

TI : the boss really dressed down someone during the team meeting after the event😖 brutal!
Or more positively, the team had a talk to discuss a publicly embarrassing moment and how to avoid repeating their mistakes

    1. OA for me, had humiliated pretty quickly but couldn’t find the link. Had briefed, kicked myself when I realised it could be debrief instead.

  3. Got to OA in the end but there were so many promising dead ends today. Was frustrated not to get anything to pair with FEATHERBED

  4. Here is the full list including Scrabble words:

  5. Boy, looks like i’m late to the party! 😎

I did Not get the OA. Instead:
    DEFAULTER RHABDIUM°(mw)
    IMBATHED° DEFAULTER
    HALF-TIMBERED° DEFAULTER
° means OED except for Rhabdium, which apparently is not in the OED, but is in Merriam-Webster and a few other on-line dictionaries.
And speaking of hyphenated words – do we count them as one word, or two?
HALF-TIMBERED seems to be hyphenated in all of the dictionaries it is in, including OED, M-W, and many others.
I found this interesting article about half-timbered buildings.
