Love the OA! Three of my kids are going through exams right now and they all feel pretty combustible – the kids, the exams, but mostly me!

    1. I got this 13/2 as well, Fishcake! Really thought it would be the official, but you’re right about the TI of today’s OA 🙂

    1. Same, but I had no idea that SUBITO is an acceptable English word.
      Also, EXCLAIMS SUBITO.

With a very big test coming up in a week, I’m amused by the OA.

      1. Good luck and brain power to Jill and the Fishcake Family. We finished up and went swimming. Strawberry moon and abundant fireflies; summer has begun!

My answer as well. The hidden meaning Down Under that fried-out combi. (Yeah, it’s actually spelled Kombi, apparently, but I don’t care.)

  2. Columbium Maximites
(former name for Niobium and a high explosive). Was not expecting this combo to be accepted.

  3. COTES – SUBMAXIMAL. The puzzle didn’t accept the latter, but it’s a PSW, so phhtht.

🐦 TUI, TEAL, IBIS, BLUE TIT, MOA, BULBUL, BLUEBILL 🐦🐦 COOT

I do like the OA (part of firefighter training, I guess), but Climaxes Subito is my fave today! Good on ya, Steve.

  5. COMBUSTIBLES EXACT. As soon as I found a word that worked with COMBUSTIBLES I just submitted it. Obviously could have found EXAM if I had bothered to look for an alternative.

  6. AUTOMOBILE–EXCLAIMS. Not so efficient, but it gets the job done. As a academician, however, I must credit the OA for its TI.

    1. Is TI Thematic Integrity? I got the Official Answer (OA) fairly quickly, and it’s very hot out and I guess school year is almost over, so I could see how EXAMs might be COMBUSTIBLE now!

      1. Bernie Horowitz

Ayuh, Thematic Integrity. I’m not sure, but I think I may have been the progenitor of the concept.

    BOBCAT – TEXTUALISM
I was quite pleased with this one for some reason. Lots of good answers today!

  8. AUTOMOBILE-EXACTS
Boring answer for a puzzle with far more humorous and lascivious options!
Steve, you win today’s imo, that’s hilarious!

  9. Mimi, Dutch, Nana, Fave

    AXIOMS-SUBCLIMATE
    CLIMAXES-SUBTOTAL
    AUTOMOBILE-EXCUSE

Lots of options today! Had fun 🙂
