ADJUTANTTAXIDERMY

The ADJUTANT paused beside a dusty MERIDIAN, where a wandering DREAMER and a curious MERMAID were arguing about IDENTITY. Their debate grew so strange and EXTREME that even the village AIDE gave up trying to AMEND it, and the whole affair eventually found its way into the local museum of TAXIDERMY.
I love these wee stories! How long did it take you? It took me an hour, even though I KNEW it had to be TAXIDERMY.
Aha, I see Alice Liang has AJUTMENT as an option and it works, so AJUTMENT-TAXIDERMY is a second solution. Not singular, but very close!
Oooh, I think missed AJUTMENT. Good catch. I’ve been grabbing the already accepted words from the HTML on the NYT site. They’re in comma delimited format. I feed it to ChatGPT with some instructions. It takes a few minutes to pare it down. Today was the first time I got the solution words to start, and end, the paragraph. Happy June Irim. ☕
Turned out, dementia was involved.
And they needed a mediatrix
😊
Oof, that took an hour!! What a fiendish array. I saw TAXIDERMY straightaway and my intuition *KNEW* that was part of the solution, and I went for ‘jaunt’, no go. JUNT? JURANT? I just couldn’t get there. ADMIXTURE wasn’t an option, JINX wasn’t an option, and I knew one word had to have the X and the other the J. UNDERTAX? No. ANXIETY? Not allowed. I kept coming back to TAXIDERMY then the word ADJURE popped into my head and ADJUTANT followed. I’ve earned my coffee!
The array is so tight, I’m sure it’s singular.
Kanishk and RF, hope to see you soon – and Kanishk, I’ve just seen your comment from yesterday and I’m laughing like a drain. You should have known that comment would JINX you and today would be 9th circle of hell fiendish.
Good luck, everyone, from the bottom of the heart of someone who was so tempted to give into JUT-TAXIDERMY-YEN, but is glad she stuck it out. Happy Monday & happy June!
I was very close to getting the OA. Like Miss Irim I saw TAXIDERMY early. Knowing it must be part of the OA, I tried and tried to form a word for the remaining J-U-N until I can’t get past ADJUENT which is not accepted. And, I was soooo stucked, which made me give up in frustration. ADJUENT is almost ADJUTANT. Almost but not quite. Can’t believe I missed it. Arrrrgh…
In a nutshell, I failed today.
Kudos on triumphing this fiendish array Miss Irim. 👏
Let’s wait and see for Kanishk-boy. Best of luck to him! 🤗
Had Taxidermy. Couldn’t get to Adjutant. 3 fails in a row. Oof.
OA for me after 55 minutes.
By the way Kanishk I don’t understand your complaint about CHIVIED yesterday. The H and I are on the same side
I asked him that! The only thing I can think is that he meant CHEVIED, which would make more sense of his complaint of it being obsolete/archaic. It is very rarely used.
Waiting for him to come back to us!
Kanishk Or did you mean chevied?
Just saw this!
OA for me today!
I saw taxidermy right away but took me few minutes to see Adjutant.
Found TAXIDERMY quickly but ADJUTANT took a bit longer.
OA after fiddling with UNJAM, UNDERTAXED, neither accepted. Found a few words that are in the Urban Dictionary. Better left there. 🙂
OA after namedat meridian dairymen entreaty trixie mediatrix dementia dreamer nameday trident and others. Saw adjutant way before taxidermy
Truth in advertising: like everybody else, I got TAXIDERMY and knew it *had* to be part of the OA. But what to do with J, U & N? Finally I appealed to my wife, who, though she does the NY Times crossword every day (as well as Spelling Bee, Connections, and Strands) never plays Letter Boxed and says she detests it. She uttered the word ADJUTANT before she could even see whether it worked — and I quickly scanned the geometry of the box to assure me it would.
Thank God. Because I never would have found the damned word myself.
Adjutant Taxidermy
Knew it had to use TAXIDERMY, but ADJUDANT is one of those words I’m not familiar with and never would have thought of on my own, so I’m glad I didn’t waste too much time on this one.
Adjutant Taxidermy
OA-got stuck with ADJUTRIX for about an hour, and tried with ADJUTANT but didn’t see TAXIDERMY for another hour or two. this one was pretty hard
