  1. Official here, as well, after trying out GHAZIS, HAZILY, GLAZY, SIGHT, SLIGHT, PLIGHT, and anything including -PLAY- (e.g. PLAYSHOP, TOYSHOP) & -SHOT-.

    1. And, before today’s puzzle is falsely accused of being a one-hit wonder, it’s not, technically. Just checked with a solving app that revealed the quite niche and humanly unattainable (with the possible exception of orthopedic doctors) ZYGAPOPHYSIS – SKYLIGHT.

      1. A few other finds along the way to officialdom: Philosophy, Plotz; Polyglot, and the long-sought but elusive Syzygy!
        I’m okay with saying there’s only one humanly-attainable two-word answer – I’m reasonably sure that’s who’s playing…

        1. Also, Aloha, Sylph and Alpha – the last, intriguingly, is shared with today’s Spelling Bee. I think I’ll start taking note of such overlaps.

        2. I did forget POLYGLOT, which I did consider only fleetingly (for obvious reasons of inefficiency). SYZYGY apparently falls in the same category but is nonetheless a amazingly broad term, with fascinating etymology worth looking into. I genuinely admire your proclivity to explore Greek words, Bernie, on the subject of which & having used the term ORTHOPEDIC, I insist on that spelling, rather than the also accepted ORTHOPAEDIC. This stems from a dispute with respect to its Greek spelling (AI instead of E).

          1. Actually, when it comes to Greek, it’s Greek to me. (Must be Shakespeare since it’s not the Bible… yeah, there it is, Julius Caesar.) I know just enough to know they’re Octopuses, not Octopi.
But this does remind me to be on the lookout for Synecdoche, another Greeky fave, now that Syzygy finally made an appearance!

      2. Did you have someone in mind? 😉

Looks to me like a three-hit wonder: the official solution for humans; Sota’s inhuman solution; and the hybrid ZYGAPOPHYSIS – SKYLIT, which I never would have found but for Sota’s help.

        1. IDK, should I? 😉 And, disclaimer, I don’t own that exotic solution; it’s all some algorithm’s work, I assume.

  2. My heart sinks when I see the letter Z as I have to translate so many British words like REALISE into US English. But there was no E today so I was encouraged to persevere. Got the official answer after a few minutes…

  3. When there’s apparently no single-word solutions, and the number of doubles are slim at best, go for triples!

    GLITZY—YAKS—SHOP
    Fashionable (to a fault) Bovines!
    ✨🐂 🛍️

    Happy weekend!

    1. @Mark I found the official, but like your 3-worder!

SKYLIGHT-TOPAZ a beautifully burnished gem of a sunset, best enjoyed while sipping a tropical cocktail 🌅🍹🌅

  4. Official here after trying many of the same as above (SYZYGY, POLYGLOT, GLITZY). Picked up LIGHT earlier, but didn’t see SKYLIGHT until the caffeine kicked in!

  5. For years I have noticed uncanny overlap between different word games and wondered how much, if any, was intentional. I like that the ALPHA dog decided to track it and hope he will someday POSIT a PHILOSOPHY on it. I was excited today when I quickly solved with a SIGHTLY 13/2, only to become downtrodden upon glimpsing it as official. If I had a ZLOTY for every SLAPSHOT I then took that was SLIGHTLY off it would have helped. In the end it just left a bad taste in my mouth, somewhere between YAKSHIT(not a word) and HALITOSIS.

    1. Oooh, Zloty! Mahvelous use of that troublesome Z! (Slapshot and Halitosis also nothing to sneeze at.)
Alpha dog indeed! My partner will find that soubriquet amusing if questionable. Thanks for the shout-out.
