    1. I got the OA relatively quickly, but not before I tried several of the other possible solutions mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
      Happy New Year!

      1. I missed Junkman Nobodies entirely. An excellent answer!
For my part, I found the OA Bijou Unmasked (Lupin, Raffles) and Kinkajous Subsumed (by their less obscure ringtailed cousins; okay, it’s a stretch for TI, but, Kinkajous… ).

  1. oh man. I had half of each of the 3 answers I see. I had subsumed (but obviously wasn’t going to pull kinkajous out of any hat I own). I had Junkman, but I didn’t have it pluralized. And I had unmasked, and a collection of letters I couldn’t make heads or tails of.
    Fun letters but I lose.

  2. I was pleased to have the puzzle accept JOKES – SUBMEDIAN and was prepared to declare victory, but then I discovered that SUBMEDIAN is not a PSW. So I failed.

    1. DW, I think you succeeded. 🙂 SUBMEDIAN is in MW and OED. I agree it’d be better if it was a PSW as well though. ✔

On that, and sort of the opposite, I’ve found lately some PSWs that were not MWs or OEDs. Not frequently at all, and they escape me at the moment. ☕

  3. An LB short story for Jan 4, 2025.
All words were either accepted in LB, or at least found in Merriam, Oxford, or online Scrabble checkers.
    ======================================
The JUNKMAN—NOBODIES met up with the KINKAJOUS—SUBMUNDANE.

They encountered the JUMBIE—ENOKIDAKES and became afraid.

So the KINKAJOUS—SUBSUMED the JOBNAMES—SKINBOUND book,
while the JUNKMAN—NONBIASED worked on his JOKES—SUBMEDIAN.

Afterwards they were finally able to behold the BIJOU—UNMASKED.

    The End.

    1. Nice one! Enokidakes is new to me – was familiar with enokitake but not that variant. OA for me in less than 10 so it’s a good start to the day!

      1. I actually used ENOKITAKE in a solve last spring/summer, and at the time, I had never heard of the word, but was grateful that LB accepted it!

          1. LB seems to like foreign foods. It accepted injera in a puzzle last week, but I couldn’t connect it up.

I encountered the fermented flatbread in an Ethiopian restaurant in Oakland in the 80s. Yum.

            Found BIJOU – UNMASKED today

  4. Well today my JUMBOS SAD DINKIES and i couldn’t get my JUNKIES () MAMBOED so many excellent combos today always impressed

  5. Got bijou unmasked, figured it couldn’t be OA,tried another hour, finally quit and what do you know? Noticed mankind and subman but alas no submankind

  6. Bondmaid-Dejunks, after chasing my tail with other leads including embodies, disembodies, bondsman/men, deskbound and unmasked.
