  1. This may be my favourite puzzle of all time, as far as promoting the revolution is concerned. LIFEHACK is not a playable Scrabble word, so the official solution does not count. I had high hopes for BACKFIT-TRUTHLIKE, but BACKFIT, while a playable Scrabble word, was not accepted by the puzzle, while TRUTHLIKE, which is not a playable Scrabble word, was!

For the record, the puzzle does accept BACKFAT-TRUTHLIKE. If I were not a revolutionary, I would call that a win. But I disqualify myself and will chalk this one up in the loss column.

    1. This one’s up there, amongst those I spent the longest time over, & ended up solving -or did I? If DW discards BACKFAT – TRUTHLIKE, I’m forced to do similar, since that’s what I got, too… Holy cow, this feels like having snatched failure out of the teeth of success! Maybe I should just call it a tie, moving on swiftly to the plentiful material processed: BACKLIT, FUTILE, FRUITCAKE (I really thought I had nailed it early on), BLACKFACE, HAIRCUT, BATHTUB, BUCKET, TRUTHFUL, TIEBACK, TRUCKIE, TRUCKLE, FIRTH (or FRITH), CRUEL, CHAIR, LIFE, BLACKIE, TABLEFUL, CHALKFACE, BRUIT, RUBATI, BLURT, BRUTAL, FABLE, CABLE, FURCATE (missed TRIFURCATE), TURF, CHIEF, TUBELIKE, CHECKABLE, BRUCKLE, FAITH, CURTAIL, TAILBACK, RITUAL, FACTUAL, FACTCHECK, BURIAL, BRIEF, FAIL, TACKLE, HATCHBACK, and ELECTRIFIABLE, opening the door to TRUTHLIKE which was then paired with [BACKFIT] -> BACKFAT.

      1. It did work, but I replaced ELECTRIFIABLE with BACKFAT merely for efficiency purposes. TRUTHLIKE (which is what made the solution dodgy by Scrabble standards) would remain part of it anyway. We do, indeed, run the risk of engaging in hair-splitting with all those different word lists; there is, for instance, a Scrabble(UK) list that is distinct from the Scrabble(US) one & so on…

  2. Wow, in an amazing turn of events I came up with the official before the coffee was even made! I failed miserably at least twice last week! Had to go look up the origin of LIFEHACK – and apparently it was coined in 2004/2005 but not officially accepted until 2014 by the Oxford online dictionary in 2014. Now it’s time for coffee 🙂

          1. DW, do you know offhand if there exist small, playable Scrabble words that do not contain A,E,I,O,U,Y ?

I may run a script on that later for the heck of it.

Wasn’t CWN like the ultimate exception?

  3. Failed today. Had high hopes for FRUITCAKE, BACKLIT, TRUTHLIKE, LIKABLE and HAIRCUT but ended up doing FAB BACKLIT TRUTHLIKE.

Thought I had it with FRUITCAKE ETCHABLE but, as someone else pointed out, ETCHABLE was not an accepted word.

  4. I failed the 1- or 2-word challenge but came up with:
    CHEF-FRUITBAT-TALK
I consider it a win! Enjoyed the research on LIFEHACK from Susanm.

  5. Truckable, truckful, etchable, bucktail, not words

Accepted Words…… truthful, fatback, fruitbat, talkback, tailback, fruitcake (nearly lost all my hair trying that one) haircut, trifurcate, tieback, buckle, blackface (went back to that one out of ridiculous desperation). Hackbut also accepted which of course led me to try lifehack that I thought was slang but hooray. It’s over.

  6. BRUTAL LIFEHACK. This puzzle was BRUTAL, but one of my LIFEHACKS is trying words that are in the current pop culture. I learned that when PHOTOBOMB showed up as an official answer.

    1. I too ended up with Backfat Truthlike, for want of anything better after much effort. I hate it when the official answer is so superior to mine…
Many other finds along the way: Trifecta, Fruitbat, Tailback, Lifelike, Bathtub, Backrub, Backtalk, Backlit, Backchat, Faith, Faithful, Caulk, Baulk, Bulkie, Blackie, Truth, Truthful, Brith, Brief, Chief, Truckle, Bucket, Buckle, Frith, Firth, Calculate, Crutch, Ketch.
      Sigh.

  7. According to the list I mentioned earlier; supposedly, these are the Scrabble words that do not contain A,E,I,O,U,Y:

BRR, BRRR, CRWTH, CRWTHS, CWM, CWMS, HM, HMM, MM, NTH, PFFT, PHPHT, PHT, PSST, PST, SH, SHH, TSK, TSKS, TSKTSK, TSKTSKS, ZZZ

I’m glad there’s not hundreds, but the list may not be the latest and greatest either.
