    1. Same here! Sorry I missed Sousaphone; although less efficient than Sulphone, it’s a great word, and seen from a Battle of the Bands perspective, provides Brawls with much TI.

      1. Here as well. Jaw dropped when SULPHONE was accepted. I was an english major so science not my wheelhouse. Took me over an hour, but I feel vindicated.

  1. LUBRA ANSWERPHONE. I wouldve felt aggrieved if i hadnt found this as i have no idea what a sousaphone is (being a non-american)

  2. Brawlers sulphone too. Got as far as sulphon and then started randomly adding letters as usual! Was hoping phlebo + random letters would work similarly but had to give up on that one!

  3. Oa. Tried bones, ware, and wear and then phone. Would have tried -erous but found sousaphone. Glad it wasn’t a repeat puzzle.

The NYT connections puzzle has eluded me today. Still trying to figure the last two.

  4. Radioactive Litters

Gave up! So lost again in the litterboxed. Got me spinning round and round.

    For six days:
    OA-FAIL-OA-FAIL-OA-FAIL!

  5. Radioactive Litters

    Guess the word: 7-letter:

    _ _ _ O _ _ _

CLUE: a word twin meaning meaning(s).
CLUE: there is only one ‘o’. and, it is the only vowel.

    1. I got that but, because it wasn’t accepted, I kept looking. Looked for some kind of word ending in PHONE (thought about instruments but didn’t think of SOUSAPHONE, which is something I’ve heard of). Didn’t see ANSWERPHONE but never heard of LUBRA (the partner displayed in an above comment) anyway. Never heard of SULPHONE either. Today was a tricky one for me. Found PHOSPHOROUS and PHOSPHERANE (just played about with the end of PHOSPHOROUS. Didn’t know PHOSPHERANE was a word). Ended up with a three:

PHOSPHOROUS SWAN NEBEL (didn’t know NEBEL was a word either hehe).

  6. Brawlers – Sulphone. I laughed when I put this in thinking it might be an alternative spelling to cell phone :)))) I was surprised when it went through.

  7. So frustrated today.
ORPHAN NEBULOUS and NEBULOUS SPRAWL each left me a letter short. And how dare they arrange the board so you can’t play NARWHAL!?!

      1. It’s a marching band instrument, sort of like a super-size tuba. It wraps around you so you pretty much WEAR it.
Jean Shepherd said of the instrument that “sometimes when the wind is off the lake, the sousaphone plays YOU”!

  8. OA, but only after a tussle..thought i was onto something when I saw HOBNOBS early on and kept chasing for a starter word that ended in H 🙂

  9. Another fail for me. Bolus Spawner with a left over H was as close as I got.

Had Answer, had Earphone. Why did I not have Answerhone? Ah yes, they’re a thing of the past!

  10. I worked on this one off and on all day — could tell in the first 15 minutes that the OA would be annoyingly obscure, but didn’t want to give up on my 29-day winning streak. So I searched. And searched. AND SEARCHED. I was ready to call it quits multiple times, but decided to try ANSWERPHONE out of sheer desperation and, lo and behold, it was accepted. Another 20 minutes of frantic trial and error led me to LUBRA (kudos to DHW for landing there as well!). Felt vindicated to keep the streak alive, and doubly so when I saw friggin’ SOUSAPHONE in the OA…

So go the ups and downs of Letterboxed. 😅
