    1. My favorite new word today: VULTURINE.
      Not only a common adjective,
but the name of a gorgeous exotic bird, the Vulturing Guinea Fowl, which one can buy for $922.50 at Purely Poultry.

  1. The official answer may explain why I was thrown off the band.

There should be some pretty good long solutions to this one. The best I could find in the time available was UNVENTILATED -DEBARMENT. No thematic consistency there, however.

  2. LIVENED – DRUMBEAT 15/2 sums up my mood today -in contrast with yesterday’s ‘toys out the pram’. Cut corners from the initial VENTILATED – DRUMBEAT .

  3. Oh, for god’s sake. I went round and round with several words and finally got UNLIMBED – DURATIVE, which is horrible but I was just DONE.

  4. I settled for Unlived Debarment for 16/2. Kicking myself for missing Drumbeat. But obviously the official Invalid Drumbeat is better, both in number of letters and in thematic integrity. I’m thinking it’s about The Shags. If you’ve never heard of them, check ‘em out on Youtube. They make your ears bleed.
Lots of terrific, inventive solutions here! It’s what I love about this puzzle. Worth the frustration of playing.

  5. I got stuck on ‘rudimental’. It seemed so efficient that it had to be the one. But in the end I had to force through: RUDIMENTAL-LIVEBAIT
