I am surprised that LYNX isn’t the OA, given it’s the more efficient answer…and I like it better. I did think about putting the second ‘e’ in as a nod to my adopted home (UK, grew up in the US), but efficiency ruled.

You’re right! PUMPERNICKEL—LYNX was last September and then ASTRONOMICAL—LYNX preceded that.
It’s coincidental that LYNX was in the OA and SNOWCAT was in valid solutions just yesterday. I attended a talk awhile back on the conservation efforts for the Canadian Lynx in the Colorado Rockies. One of the rangers affectionately referred to the Lynx as the Snowcat.
It is illegal to hunt the Lynx, while it’s close cousin the Bobcat can be hunted as a furbearer species.
Hi Irim. Even though the vast majority of Canadians live in close proximity to the US border, most of us adhere to the British spelling of words.
As such, words like colour and favour are spelled with the letter U.
Sometimes I think we do so as an a very minor expression of Canadian nationalism or just plain habit.

Kanishk, hon, I grew up in the States where we left off the ‘e’, and only picked it up when I moved to the UK, so I spell it both ways. All my Pakistani relatives spell it with the ‘e’ because they follow British spelling. One to tuck away when G and E are on the same side of Letter Boxed, but you want to use JUDGMENTAL!
