      1. Same as Graham, though I think a slightly different show than what Steph is referencing…
        I mean pacing wise, of course!
        “The tribe has spoken!”
        Whoa, slow down, Jeff. Keep your pants on!
        Britches Survival.

          1. Already had both Beaches and Belches at the point I discovered SURVIVALIST. Opted to officially go with BEACHES-SURVIVALIST because my wife is Irish and rather pale, so it made me think of her and all of her sunblock.

    1. Bernie Horowitz

      One of many today for me. Let’s see…
      Blastula Archives – another NIH project trashed; Vascular Rebirth – a new lease on life after a bypass; Behaves Structuralist – it’s not just a theory, it’s a way of life; Britches Survival – all they needed was a little patching; Belches / Beaches / Birches / Breaches Survivalist – doing whatever it takes. Plenty more where those came from, but enough already.
      I actually started with variations on the OA, featuring the far too obscure Thurible(s), an answer I immediately deemed Turrible and rejected. Unfit for the OA!

      1. Ha ha, well done. BEHAVES – STRUCTURALIST was my solve today, and it took too long. Felt pretty inefficient, but then I saw the OA and figured it wasn’t so bad after all. 🙄

      1. Same. After getting REACTIVATES I think BLUCHER came to me as a result of being bombarded with Rockport shoe ads.

    1. Same. Bleacher – Rivulets
      A surprising OA. Had no idea I have seen a Thurible many times over the years at church services. Nice when a fun game teaches you the actual name of a familiar object.

        1. Today seemed unusual in that 1.found a great many answer-worthy words that didn’t pan out,2. Saw many good answers I knew but didn’t think of , and 3.there were a lot of answers I’d never heard of,esp. Richie’s as usual haha

  1. Given current events, when I saw VISIBLE-EUCHARIST, I thought for sure it would be the OA, but LB doesn’t even take EUCHARIST, unlike about 20% of Americans.

    1. That hung me up for a minute, too, but evidently the word is EUCHARIS. I paired it with REVERTIBLE for my daily solve.

      REVERTIBLE–EUCHARIS

      1. “EUCHARIST” is a word that means communion or sacrament, as in the Christian ritual of symbolically eating the last supper of Christ.

        “EUCHARIS” is a flowering plant.

  2. I wanted to comment on world events with Brutalist Tsarevitch, but alas not allowed, so I took my pills and achieved Vascular Rebirth…

    1. Bernie Horowitz

      I did report Blastula Archive, but you and I may be the only ones. Certainly better than the OA, not that that’s much of a stretch. Thurible is turrible!

  3. An LB short story.
    All words are at least in OED.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The ARCHIVIST—TRUEBLUE, a former BEACHES—SURVIVALIST and a BLEACHERITE—ELUSIVE, now BEHAVES—more like a —STRUCTURALIST.
    While the ARCHIVIST—THURIBLE smoldered, he drank the potent HIBISCUS—SERVITIAL tea, and then a LURCHER—REVIBRATES, giving him additional clarity.
    As his new CHARTREUSE—EVASIBLE, BLUCHER—REVITALISES his VASCULAR—REBIRTH, he explores the ARCHITRAVES—SLURBS, and at long last beholds the VISIBLE—EUCHARIST.
    The End
  4. BRITCHES — SURVIVALIST The key is keeping your pants on!
    I came close on many words: STITCHES, STRETCHES, SCRATCHES, CALIBRATES, VIHUELA, ARBITRATES, etc., but just could not connect them.
    Apparently, BRAVEHEART is not a word! 🙂
  5. BEACHES-SURVIVALIST here too.
    BITCHES*-SURVIVAL is evidently censored. BRACHETS*-SURVIVAL wasn’t accepted either: either because it’s also a female dog, or maybe just too archaic. However, BIATCHES-SURVIVAL seems to have snuck through and in some ways is even worse!
    1. Bernie Horowitz
      Neat, Nate! Never thought of a Biatches workaround! I was beguiled (Wonderstruck?) by Bitches Survival and its perfect TI, but LB notoriously Clutches its pearls at such language.
  6. BITCHES SURVIVAL
    No I’m joking. For some reason it wouldn’t take BITCHES. So I had to go with BRITCHES, which is a word I use far less often.
    1. Same here; BRITCHES SURVIVAL after Bitches rejected… I first found SURVIVALIST but once I started to add the first word, I realized the -ist was redundant for a shorter 2w answer. At first I tried BRUTALIST/S, had VETCH/es left over but unjoinable. I don’t know that word Thurible. Just happy to get any 2w. LIBERALIST/S got me a 3w (Cavil Liberalist Thus).
  7. THURIBLE? Had to look that up in my Websters Unabridged. Gave as definition “a censer” which I also had to look up. “A container in which incense is burned”. Yup, you learn something new every day.
      1. Hmmm,,, will need to remember that. My websters Unabridged is a huge book – 1854 pages and weighs almost seven pounds. Takes two hands to pick it up. Many years ago, I was typing papers for my ex- who was completing college and working part time at a book store. I asked her to get a dictionary and that is what she brought home. It has been here thirty years. Much easier to simply type into wikipedia!
        1. Bernie Horowitz
          Or just highlight and Lookup. But the dictionary makes a good defensive weapon, first as a shield and then as a blunt object. If Jason Bourne can kill a guy with a rolled-up Nat Geo, think what he could do with Websters.
  8. THURIBLE may be a nod to the recent masses honoring Pope Francis. Can’t help but think of that funny (most likely apocryphal) story about Tallulah Bankhead who attended a mass at St Patrick’s. She allegedly said to the Cardinal who passed by swinging a thurible, “Love your dress, but your purse is on fire.”
  9. HIBISCUSES-SURVIVALIST
    I’ve been gardening all day and the hibiscus looks good, so points for being relative to my life
  10. Also BREVIARISTS* SCHUL*
    *OED, and MW (var. Shul)
    “The breviarists Festus and Eutropius…were also pagans…” Diana Bowder, THE AGE OF CONSTANTINE AND JULIAN, 1978
  11. Salivate calibrate curvature literature arbitrate casuistry vitalist bilateral hibiscus characteristics biscuits curatives structural also tried
  12. BLEACHES – SURVIVALIST
    After returning from Naked and Afraid contestants want to sanitize every part of themselves
