    QUIP – PHYTOPLANKTON

I always got back to plankton until at last i saw phyto to add to plankton. So satisfying when you’re on the verge of giving up.

    1. Yeah, there was about a 2 hour gap for me between when I saw plankton and when I saw you could add Phyto to it. Did learn Palanquin and Loquat were words along the way, though.

      1. Here is a fun 1 for you : note the 3 alpha runs ( almost phone button perfect( still working on that))

        EIO
        LMN
        QRS
        TUV

        1. Good one Oscar! I see it, but I won’t spoil the challenge for others. I’ll just say that it starts with a V. 😉

            Hey, KP,

Good job on a unique solution with better TI. 👍😊🤗

        Hey, Mr.AgentSmith,

You got half the OA. Good job! 👍🤓
Clue for the other half: it starts with P. Six letters.

        1. I think you could fit more masterpieces in a studio rather than a podium. Unless it’s the auctioneer’s podium.

  2. OA on the first try! Working in marine microbial biology, I have been testing phytoplankton as a solution for months, never dreaming it would end up in the OA. What a glorious Monday!

WOW! The people in this forum are big-time people.

I think I’m the only one that is jobless. 🙂

    2. As a biology major, i am kicking myself for not seeing the solution despite finding PLANKTON and playing with PHY. but then again I have been out of the field for almost 15 years and probably would never remember PHYTOPLANKTON out of my own accord.

  3. QUIP – PHYTOPLANKTON
Found it immediately. Went for combos to cover the difficult letters. Saw phyto first and that’s probably the only phyto I know.

  4. Saw plankton early, but nearly abandoned it. Got stuck with notational/national, and thought for sure that hypo would lead to something. Glad I remembered something from biology!

  5. Wow. Couldn’t believe my 17/2 was truly the OA for this puzzle. Took the app quite a while to draw out the lines for phytoplankton once solved.

Also a biology major in college a time ago. My education has paid off!

  6. OA.

I tried putting in some other plankton (holoplankton and hypoplankton) . LB wouldn’t accept those names, but they are real.

I did find out, from wikipedia, that plankton is plural – so there are no planktons, just many plankton. A single plankton organism is a plankter – I wonder if LB would accept that word? We can’t find out today … 😎

  7. Wow, I was angry for wasting my time on this one when I saw the solution, but lots of solves today in the comments, so I won’t be a sore loser. 😅 Had PLANKTON, but wasn’t even close to coming up with a PHYTO prefix. 🤦‍♂️

  8. OA.
    TI: algae jokes?
I suspect this is a singular 2-word solution. Quite a contrast from yesterday that had one 140 possible 2W solves!

  9. Today there was just 1 solution. No Scrabble words.

(The first number is a count and the second number is the number of letters used)

    1 – 17 quip / phytoplankton

  10. I tried way too long, especially with PALANQUIN, but to no avail. I can’t believe there were so many OA solves on this forum! Smart people. I settled for QUIT-TOPHAT-TINKLY.

  11. I completely washed out on this one. Didn’t even find a 3 word solution.

You could cut off all my fingers and toes and I would still be able to count how many times I’ve used, heard or seen “phytoplankton”.
